Title: How many 5.0 or 5.8 Birds/Cats Using Power Adders (Nitrous, Superchargers, Turbo's)

Trying to get a feel of how many forum members are using power adders on their 5.0's and 5.8"s (swaps)? When the discussion focuses on Turbo's, it is typically the I4 Turbo Coupes. Time to see some V8's!

One day it will happen. I had a m90 off a super coupe, but i sold it after not using it. I also at one point had a turbo off a 85 tc i was gonna use for mock up, but chickened out.

After watching roadkill make 550hp and 600ftlbs through e7 heads and stock stang manifolds with a power stroke turbo, really kinda makes ya rethink alot of stuff. Even at 6psi it made over 400hp to the wheels.(btw, that was flywheel hp on an engine dyno, you would expect a bit less through a drive train and i doubt too many people would turn a stock motor all the way up to 16psi or whatever they were running)

I've been running Turbo on my 5.0 Tubocoupe for years now. Made 383/453 Dynojet #'s to the wheels on a 306, E7's, stock cam, 1.7 rockers, Cobra Intake, 42# injectors with ~10-11 psi from an old Holset Turbo I yanked off a generator before it went to s. Not the best turbo option but considering it was like new and FREE.....its perfect!! Also  No intercooler or meth spray.

Same setup made 222/259 naturally aspirated. I made a fitting to get a baseline without the turbo. Keep in mind these numbers were with alot more timing  than with boost.

I have since moved to TFS170 heads after lifting the E7 and pressurizing the radiator trying to push things as far as I could. No current dyno numbers as of yet.

Our cars make great looking street strip cars, but I admit to being partial.

I have run turbo's and superchargers on several boats, never a car (although I have sprayed a car). It's coming though. I purchased a used Vortech V2 SQ setup with aftercooler, injectors and the whole shebang. I have enough parts to build either a 347 or 306 with a C9 302 or roller 5.0 block, both of which I have in my shop. Also have 351W stuff, but I want to save that for my boat.
It was a toss up between the turbo and the Vortech. Came down to the deal (as often happens).

I'll keep everyone up to date on the build.

Keep 'em coming!

It is indeed thought provoking.

I attended a test n' tune at Quaker Motorsports Park in Ohio last year and was taking a lot in. You had the traditional big tire, tubbed, mega cammed door slammers that have been the mainstay of sportsman drag racing up against notch back foxes that looked if they were driven to the track. The traditional drag cars left the tree, wheels in the air, screaming their guts out, while the Mustang could barely be heard leaving the line in a far more sedate manner. When the scoreboard lit up, both were solidly in the 10's! My jaw dropped more than once.

It doesn't matter if the other car was a Ford, Chevy or Mopar. The point is that affordable forced induction has been changing the face of sportsman drag racing in a big way and a good way, I think. Cheap turbo kits may not be the ideal choice for a daily driver, but what they are capable of doing in the quarter mile has brought people to the sport that might have never been able to afford a traditional drag motor, chassis, enclosed trailer etc).
