Title: EGR valve clean or replace
Post by: CatWoman on May 06, 2017, 09:00:04 AM
I tuned up my 86 Cougar 3.8L V-6 engine, it was lunging a bit at stops, I replaced the TPS, plugs, wires, rotor, dis cap, Map or Maf, and the electrical part of the EGR valve. The lunging or stumbling has quit and all in all the car is in great running shape, but I decided because I replaced the electrical part of the EGR I should have checked to see if the actual EGR needed cleaning, so my question is should I take it off and clean it, or just replace it?  I have 95,000 miles on the car and the EGR is OE.

It should be fine but a clean wouldn't hurt.

Thanks Moon  I took it off and it wasn't worth cleaning the pintle was stuck and rusty, lol  know wonder my car was stumbling  I ordered a new one I'll put it on as soon as it arrives in the mail.  Motorcraft brands are hard to find but I lucked up on Ebay.

make sure the EVP sensor is operating correctly as well, it unbolts from the top.
resistance values are in my diy link or the EVTM's.
