Title: Rocker arm size?
Post by: ISTLCRUZ on March 19, 2017, 08:46:14 AM
I had a TFS1 spring kit installed on my gt40 heads while they were at the machine shop. I will be running a stock ho cam and need to know what rockers I should use?(1.6...1.7?).. Also can stock push rods be used? 87 5.0 SO to HO conversion.... Oh, these are 3 bar not P heads. Thanks.

I'd go with the 1.7 as lift on a stock HO cam isn't anything to get excited about... For push rods the length should be checked when using any roller rockers, generally stock PRs are a tad on the short side...

I've looked around, and there are several different choices I could go with. Any idea what would be a good option? Can I hit up a Mustang forum for used or is new the way to go?

Ford Racing, Crane, Comp, and Scorpion are all good brands. Stay away from cheap Chinese made ones.

Careful with used unless you can inspect them before buying......As the saying goes......Buyer beware!

You should be ok going 1.7s..... but if your doing this with heads already on the engine, roll it over very slowly by hand feeling for any resistance or binding. It's not the recomended way to check PTV clearances since you won't get full lift without using a solid lifter due to preload and liifter collapsing without oil pressure. So .... be very attentive for unusual clatter when you start it up.

Good luck
John
