Hey guys, I'm doing some research into what it might take to get some new replacements for some of the rubber weatherstip items that we really have no replacement for on the Tbirds/Cougars. Think along the lines of what the Fox Mustang guys have.
Anyway, I know nothing yet, but my contact asked for some factory part numbers. Basically 83-86 and 87-88.
Anyone have that info?
Thanks
Chuck
I'll have to see if my parts list has it when i get home, but im sure someone will already give you the answer by then.
Well, I've accumulated a few numbers so far..but still am lacking key ones.
Primarily the inner and outer belt mouldings for the 83-86 (and inner for the 87-88). These are the pieces that seal against the window where it goes into the door at the bottom. Also the run channel liner (what the window seals into).

(as a clue...I'm trying to see if having this stuff made (ie as restoration parts) is a possibilty)
So...is there ANY interest in new replacement weatherstrip for these cars?
Perhaps.. but it's not yet high on the list for either Bird.
i am, i was looking it up to but soon realized i had no money lol. i was also wondering if we could use lincon weatherstripping off a mark7. probley same, maybe better. eather way they were made in the early 90s so theirs a better chance of somebody haveing it in stock.
Mark VII weatherstripping will work. Question is, would it still be available?
Chuck, you're on to something man. This is going to be a hot item because we need weatherstripping available something fierce. I know I personally need some, and can't find good stuff at the boneyard. Don't let the lack of responses get to you...you're doing the right thing, and I'll help all I can.
I'd definately be interested
interest here also although mine's still holding up well, but you never know when it'll start leaking
Sunroof weatherstrip would be nice - Mine howls in the wind.
http://www.sunroofdoctor.com I believe has the TC factory sunroof weather stripping
Chuck: I would definently be interested in weatherstripping, and I will check my manuals tonight to see if they have any p/n's
mark me as in the driver door is starting to leak if i power wash the car
i found some stuff at jc whitney, but i dont know about them. it took like a month for my friends truck door weatherstripping to get hear from em... but they have the pattern for our door stripping, and i think they have something we can use for bottom seal and trunk. just have to match up the cross sections.
Mustang weatherstripping is the same for the doors and trunk (LX coupe) as the birds, it's just that the weatherstripping is too short (for the doors at least, can't remember on the trunk). If you can buy the Mustang door-to-body weather stripping in a longer section, it would work out great. The T-bird stripping is about a foot longer. I know this because I replaced the weather stripping on the mustang with better weather stripping out of my parts car T-birds.
I kinda figured that was the case on that.
Anyone have a part number on the window channel liners?
For the moonroof weatherstrip: http://www.sunroofdoctor.com
That's a pretty standard part, unlike the stuff Chuck wants to make. Best of luck.
I've been looking everywhere for these moldings, all obsolete. I checked with Steel Rubber Products(classics), they don't make anything for that new of a car. I found some replacement molds in J.C.Whitney for the Fox Mustangs which LOOKED the same, but went to the boneyard and is 1/8 narrow. I talked to Mustang Restorer here in town, he said buy something close and glue it in. That's probably what I'll end up doing. BigC/'86 T-bird
The OEM part #'s for the beltline weatherstrip for 1983/84 Cougars for the windows are E3SZ 6321456A and E3SZ 6321457A for driver and passenger sides. I have not been able to locate any but I did find a kit to replace these at http://www.classiquecars.com for 1983/84 Thunderbirds for $130 a side
I've love to get the gaskets for the 87-88 Tbird - all of 'em. Windows, doors...
Anyone have these part numbers?
Thanks!
Chris
Anyone know if all the weatherstripping listed at this site will cover the whole car?
Well, my father order some mustang weathstrip for the windows when he wrecked my car. We found that it was a little too long, but also not wide enough. So, by splitting the weatherstripping in the middle, I made it work. It's not exactly perfect, but it's definitly much better than broken stuff everywhere. The one thing I would love to find is the strip on the inside of the door along the tip of the A-pillar. I need an umbrella inside when it's raining because of the failure of that piece of junk. I will get pics if needed. Also, for the door stripping I contacted JC Whitney, and they can sell the mustang stuff by the roll. So I bought it along with the trunk stuff for the mustang. Just cut to length and slide it on. Works pefect. I havent been able to find anything for the piece along the bottom of the door though.

Thanks for the link, fordguy. Just sent the company they're in-touch with (info@fairchildind.com) an email. I'd suggest the rest of you do the same :)
I would think if this is possible it would be awesome as these pieces are needed greatly. I'm gonna make another thread if allowed so I can maybe get more responses to this issue.
Hey Guys,Im in the same boat also,I have a 85 T-Bird,And Im in the serious search too,if I find somthing I will tell ya;-)
They have gotten emails and replied to the lot of us saying that it's not worth it to them to do the tooling......as of right now we're screwed. Unless someone wants to front the coin for them to do 500-1000 sets.......
