So I have found a NOS driver's door molding for an 88 XR7 (thank you major metro area). The issue is that it is white. I'm assuming the molding is just a regular 87-88 Thunderbird/Cougar molding painted white by the factory correct? If so I should be able to just paint it with SEM trim black and it should match the regular 87-88 side moldings. Unless anyone has a way to get the factory paint off without damaging the rubber underneath.
You'll no doubt find this hard to believe but I honestly cannot remember what my old '88 XR7 had. The front and back bolt-on moldings were molded in color for sure. But the moldings between the doors...can't remember.
Well if it's white painting it may not be the best option.
I have a spare drivers door molding that is a little bent and has a scuff on it. I'm attempting to restore it. If the process works I'll be posting a how to process.
