Just had my whole day ruined!! Got a whiff of oil so I took my baby to my favorite mechanic who just called and says I'm leaking oil and coolant from the oil cooler (oil filter adaptor) and he can't find one!! Car is a 1986 Mercury Cougar XR-7 2.3L with the turbo. Does anyone have any ideas about where I might find one of these things??
Maybe he can remove the oil cooler and install the oil filter without it.
Just to get you back on the road until you can find one, or decide you really don't need it.
In the diagram, you can see the base part number is 6B856 for the cooler.
If you google that number you will getshiznits with various prefixes and suffixes on the base number.
I saw one for a Ford Fusion, so they are still used on modern cars.
Whether they are interchangeable or not is the big question.
Maybe a Ford dealer can help shed some light on it.
THANKS softtouch!! I just sent all your info to my mechanic!!
Make sure he/she saves any removed parts.
They may be needed to install a new cooler if you find one.
