Title: Cant log onto this board using IE
Post by: jcassity on October 31, 2016, 12:28:50 PM
is there a known problem with compatibility using IE to log in to this board?

I no longer can log on here unless i use the security corrupt chrome tunnel.  Yes i know IE has its issues but nothing like the intrusive nature chrome has

IE is like religion...it was there when you started, or else you're scared to accept that there might be something better...

I'd rather shove a 5.3 LS up my ass dry than to ever use IE OR edge or what'nshagever Mighty$uck calls their browser these days. Security flaws, intrusions, backdoors for spambots...no fuggin thanks.

Microsoft doesn't even technically support Windows XP...but they actually do...because, what, 30% or 50% or some other silly % of the world still uses it?
My own personal laptop, which is from 2006, that I got as part of where I went to college, is still running XP. I refuse to move forward until truly forced to. I also have literally zero anti-ANYthing protection software on it. I've gotten away with this for years. I have no idea how.

I don't get emotionally involved with computers.

I do only when it comes to slow, inferior, or crash-pr0ne programs.

As for fast vs cool, I'll take cool, if I have to choose. But tonight, looks like I'm settling for slow and uncool LOL.

I remember when XP came out....I was using Windows ME. If you've never suffered through that then you are truly blessed, though XP was flaky and buggy for awhile too. 10 isn't too bad, once you turn off a bunch of the stupid shiznit they force onto your system. I've got the Pro version, so it's not as bad as Home.

7 was great, but I've moved on from it. Farewell, and good night...10 is an excellent successor.

You get a little involved when you do a scratch build.

When XP came out, I was running 2000. I really liked 2000. I eventually went to XP and got used to that. Then when Vista came out, it was insanely horrible. I liked 7 when it came out but 10 is really where it's at for me. It was tricky to get used to, but it isn't as bad of a resource hog as 8 and 8.1, and it's really smooth.

^Yup. If Micro$uck keeps support for 10 for a good while, I'll be happy.

same issue here,
this is a new laptop and i believe its a setting somewhere.

If the mods were to look, they would see that anytime user jcassity attempts a login, there will be the following result
user attempts login
login successful\
----however,, from jcassity's desk the page phycially shows me that i am "NOT" logged in.

I get the same results with IE and Chrome.
for the record,, IE requires less phyical steps to get to my favorites

with IE, i click favorites then the linke
with Chrome there is an additional 2 more clicks to achieve the same result...

Today i was lucky, using IE it took only 5 attempts to log in

If someone is tech savy , let me know what adanced setting is incorrect to stop this from happening.
I am physically not able to log in without a normal try being a dozen times or more...

i remmeber last month i gave up after 20 tries or more using IE or Chrome.

normally if i fail on IE,,
i close IE out then reopen and the qty of attempts to log in is reduced.

i have no f'ing clue

My desktop was born as a Win 7 and my laptop was 8.1.
They were both updated to Win10 last year.
They both have IE 11  version:11.576.14393.0 , update versions:11.03.38 (KB3203621)
They both work fine here.

Fired-up my old XP desktop, it has IE 8, it works fine here.

i tried the old method of getting logged in here by two dozen attempts.

on first attempt the upper right of our home page says im not logged in but if i scroll down at the bottom to see who's logged in,,, i see my user name showing that i am logged in.

I understand the comments of how others are not having an issue, that's not the problem.
the problem is i am having an issue logging in and am asking if someone on the tech side of the forum can contact me to see if i have a setting wrong.
304 772 3411

Trends of past years show i am interested in being a part of the board,, yet the past few months of my log in attempts and lack of partition should prove out that i am truly having issues beyond my grasp.

Did you try to delete all the cookies?

I couldnt even tell ya how to do that anymore, haven't owned a computer in over 10 years now.

does this board have a tech support number?

yes, all things cookies and temp files ect are deleted each time i exit IE or Chrome or Firefox

each of them give me the same result.
i log in
it says i failed
i scroll down and i see my name in the list of on line users yet my log in UID is not show in the top right.

i simply get lucky logging in once in a while.

the admin here should see my log in attempts are failing, it would be helpful to me to take a look to see if one of the three options i am given as a result of a failed login are valid.

Unless Carm did a software update (and there's no proof that I can see that that happened), nothing major has changed on the board's end for quite some time. We have to pay for updates so that tends to keep them few and far between. And we haven't heard from anyone else about login issues. I don't know what else to say other than it seems to be a jcassity-only problem, unfortunately.

If you have your browsers to not accept cookies, that might be the issue right there.

Otherwise I have little experience troubleshooting IE, Edge, or Chrome on Windows. Are you running Win10?

new Lenovo laptop

I find this puzzling. I have purchased two brand new Lenovo laptops in the last 3 years. The first one had Windows 8 (since upgraded to W10) and the one I bought 9 months ago has Windows 10.
How were you able to purchase a new one with Windows 7?

example real time of what happens when i attempt to log in.

system shows i am logged in on the lower left but upper right says i am not.
note my attempt at showing you time stamps.

again system logs and files should show history of user UID/PW attempts to access

I know its just me, just looking for tech support to help me figure out what is going on.

im willing to let someone do a teamviewer session as well.

So it looks like you're actually logging in fine, it's just not displaying the successful login in the top area.

I have my 'theme' set to Gunmetal when I'm logged in. If I'm not logged in, the default (white) theme shows. That's how I know whether I'm actually logged in or not. Every now and then my iDevices will log me out, but once logged in they still retain the login preference cookie indefinitely.

Strange but it seems more like a UI issue than anything else...

BTW, I didn't see anything in the logs about your multiple attempts. It just kind of lumps everyone that successfully logs in together into a daily running total.

Are you running some kind of AV software that somehow blocks cookies from being saved? Maybe an ad blocker?

When I look at the "current active users" at the bottom it always shows my ID (softtouch) as the first one in the list.

sorry for taking  a bit to reply,, logged in, after a shut down restart.

I will check to see if malewarebytes has some dislike for this link,, not sure about the other stuff you said.

all iknow is that its hard to come around anymore.

i think i am on to something..
looked at malewarebytes advanced settings.

with this path  >
settings/protection/realtime protection/Advanced Settings:

another scrreen pops up with 4 tabs:
under "Application Hardening", the radio button was checked for > "disable IE VB scripting".
I unchecked this box thus Enabling it.

under "Application Behavior Protection", the radio button was checked for > "Protection for IE VB Scripting".
I unchecked this box thus Disabling it.

it appears that what i have done affected log in ability.

I consistently now log in once and i get an invalid URL notice embeded in this forum's html.
I log in once more and I WIN !

So ,, if i have to log in twice and "know this" then im good but............
i have to figure out what safeguards i am letting down with the radio buttons i unchecked.
