Title: Removing metal panel at base of windshield?
Post by: deathbypsi on June 03, 2016, 10:55:42 PM
I want to remove the metal panel at bottom of windshield that the wipers rest on due to all the paint being gone and its all rust now. I would like to have it powder coated so it will hold up better but after removing the 4 bolts it still wont come off. It looks like the ends may wrap around the glass and Im wondering if it is set in the urethane.

Has anyone removed this panel? Any tricks?

The chrome A-pillar pices have to be removed also. And they, and the lower piece you're trying to remove, could possibly both have adhesive trim on the back. Be patient, do not use sharp objects, and let the car sit out in the sun for a few hours first to soften up the adhesive.

I have all the window trim off already. The metal panel is lose of the glass and body. The only thing preventing me from getting it off is the very ends

Figured it out.... Don't work on a car outside at dusk.

After the side trim was removed and it was day light I could see the single screw through the trim that held the metal panel down. Yes it was held with some of the windshield urethane also but a sharp blade with a little pressure and it came right off. I sent it out to be powder coated.
