Hey everyone my 88tc been idling crazy so figured tps needs replacement which is no big deal but did some checking around can't find one. Does anyone know where to find one I've checked Autozone,O'Reillys,Napa no one has one in stock or in warehouse. Can the sensor b interchangeable?
First you should run codes and see what is actually causing the problem.
Theres no check engine light and I've heard if ppl having problems with tps and it not showing codes
All you need is a paperclip pull the codes Sir
It will show up when you pull the codes. If it's the tps that is. That'll show you whatever sensor is acting goofy.
Well I guess I'll test it but I bout know that's problem I don't mind buying and replacing cause wat it does is sometimes it jumps up to 2000rpm sometimes higher shut engine off fire back up idles fine then it will do it again but pass couple days it's been alright but tomorrow my be different I'm not trying to be difficult I appreciate help but if I run codes and it reads tps then I still have to find one that's y I asked if anyone knows where I can get one car does have several problems and it has done this sense I've had car 3yrs now so figure whats another 30-50 bucks lol

AFAIK they are all about same, if it fits it works... I used one from my Bird on my '93 Lightning when it failed, fit and worked perfectly...

Hey OP, had the same problem with my 88 tc. Guess what??? A tps probably won't fix it.... Throw one on it tho. The parts stores love people who troubleshoot by changing parts willy nilly.
Seems like you're saying the car is trying to hunt for an idle
The idle speed controller may actually be carbon'd up on the inside
Use a cheap buttstuffog meter and unplug your TPS
Manually increase and decrease your throttle body linkage and watch the needle on the meter move
You measure from the black and the green and open your throttle slowly to maximum a couple of times
Next you test from your green wire to your orange and open your throttle and watch the needle movement
You do this test with the TPS unplugged and the car off
You're looking for a smooth sweeping motion of the needle on your meter
You set your meter to something like our times 5K or are times 2K
If at any point while your meter is measuring and the needle is interrupted you've confirmed that the TPS is faulty
No plug the TPS back into your harness and go back to the front of the engine
With a stick pin probe the green wire physically bypassing the stick pin through the conductor
Switch your meter to DC volts and the maximum voltage you are working within his the 5 V DC scale
Picture red lead to the stick pan and your black lead to battery ground
Start your car up and you should see about one volt DC within acceptable range of .7 to .9 volts DC at idle
Anything from .59-1.27v's at idle should be fine and 3.5v's above idle at wot.
My cougar was sitting at 1.25 volts for a year or two before it finally through a tps code. Im pretty sure it was the original with 320+k miles on it.

Test ran by yours truly using a paper clip and an old school buttstuffog meter. You can use a test light or a sound buzzer if you like. It litterly takes 2 minutes start to finish.
Oh shyte I missed the fact it was a Turbo Coupe, I agree... Also the half motor TPS is slotted to be adjustable(may be all that needed), plus one of the screws is offset so a 5.0 TPS won't readily fit...
Before I replaced anything I'd be running codes, looking for vacuum leaks and checking the TPS voltage to be sure it's in spec... A misadjusted TPS won't always set a code but can cause high idle...
To make it easy get one of these code readers, so simple a drunk chimp could use it...
