Nice save. 428 Police Interceptor, though? haha
Yep, that's he engine used in the '67 Shelbys with the dual quads, actually were the '66 version with solid lifter 427 spec cam... Due to shortages on those engines it's been reported some got 390 PI engines, but that being a early one(has inboard headlights, not legal in some states), should have the 428...
I never find things like this at local garage sales.......
Figured it would've gotten the CJ, but I guess with the dual carbs.... ;)
Hindsight, ya know.. lol
The CJ didn't see light of day till early 1968, first ran at the 1968 Winter Nationals in Feb... Wasn't avail in production models till late in the '68 model year, which is difference in the '68 GT500 & GT500KR, KR have 428 Cobra Jets, std 500 PI engines...
1967 Shelby GT-500s did not have solid lifter 427 cams. Early (first 100 or so) '67 GT-500s came through with 390s (dogs). Then as regular production moved along with the 428 PI with dual 4Vs (way over carb'd) However, its one of the nicest body styled Shelbys built. "Inboard" or "Outboard" headlights were regulated by each states lighting requirements. Most were produced with "Outboards" Also, the GT-350s HP ratings using the 289HP engine was not reduced even though the '67s used cast iron manifolds, where as the '65-66s used Tri-Y headers. The 428CJ made its debut in 1968 1/2 as the GT-500KR. '69-70s dropped the "KR" since the standard GT-500 engine was the 428CJ.
Not exactly true.... all 67 GT-500 got 428's.
"Inboards" were phased out when lighting and cooling issues were discovered, so like you said, most were produced with "Outboards".
