This old Bird runs a little sluggish and has a ruff idle. Checked the basics, plugs, spark, filters. The KOEO (Key On Engine Off) was error code 11 or all is good, but the KOER (Engine Running) was error code 18. My Ford Error Code Reader manual list the issue as SPOUT circuit open or Spark Angle Word (SAW) is open. I have check the SPOUT and it is in and passed a quick resistance test. Still looking, any idea's.
Check the timing to see if it moves off the base timing.
When KOER finishes outputting codes it should advance the timing 20° on top of the base timing.
It is advancing, a little odd in that it sometimes will initially move towards ATD and then go the BTC direction, just for a second.
Have you tried to set the base timing with the spout unplugged? 10° advanced.
10* with it unplugged and my SnapOn timing light can be set to what ever is needed.
Does it run better with the spout unplugged?
So the timing stays steady at 10° with the spout unplugged and goes crazy with the spout plugged?
Hard to decide whether the problem is at the pip emitter/TFI end or at the EEC end.
I guess I would start with the cheapest parts.
