This is what happens when a distracted driver in a Ford F250 Super Duty pick-up drifts out of his lane at 65mph and collides into the passenger side of my near perfect 1988 Cougar XR7 in San Antonio. When the cops arrive he claims I crossed into his lane and caused the accident.

If I had a dash cam it would have caught this jerk colliding into me. So I bought this one from Amazon for $79.95: Spy Tec A118-C Capacitor Edition Full 1080P HD Video Car Dashboard Camera. Wow that really sucks
I hate seeing nice cars get hit
That really stinks. Hope you can get it back in no time. I am accumulating my own collision repair parts right now.
How bad is the damage on the quarter? At least the rest looks fixable. Did you have collision insurance?
That car sure is nice. You don't see nice clean southern cougars that often. That certainly sucks.
Agreed. Especially nice old/vintage cars.
Wow that sucks. Hopefully you have some sort of collector vehicle policy. If so they should be able to fix your car and find the parts to repair it.
I maintain full coverage on the vehicle through AAA. My claim was treated as a "no fault" accident because the other driver claims I collided into him. However, the body shop AAA recommended said they can't find parts for it (bumper, fender, door) and gave me a check and "good luck". I'm looking for a bumper, door, and fender in the "parts wanted" forum.
My ins co said same thing on a vehicle i had get hit. I called there hand and said show me. They couldn produce parts local gave me more money. It was a pita.
Good luck.
It's not hard to see the point of impact on the road where the tires break loose from the ground in a collission.
Kafer79, when I went to a local yard here, there were a couple of 87 - 88 cougars, If I can get over there to make sure they're still there, I can price out the parts you need.
Wow that really sucks man hopefully you can get her back to great condition
I've been watching a lot of dash cam crashes on YouTube lately lol, it's been making me want to get one as well. It would sure save your ass in this type of case.
I'm getting a dash cam as well. It's like a gun, better to have it and never need it, than to need it and be screwed with no lube.
. Thatwould be awesome....PM me if they have an XR7.
Wow that is terrible. I feel for you man. Not in my T bird luckily, I was in my truck, when I had someone cross on me and I had to go into the grass to misshiznitting it head on. I turned around and followed it while calling the sheriff. A mile or so down the road it pulled over into a little convenience store. Turned out to be a young girl who was still texting on her phone when I pulled up to her. She had no idea I was even there. I asked her if she knew what she did, she had no clue. Sheriff was pulling in as I was leaving. A dash cam is a good idea. I have never felt I needed it, but after looking at your car, that could easily be my car.
Yeah, everyone that wants an easier time should have a dashcam. I have three G1W cameras, which only cost about $42 shipped each for the most recent purchase of a genuine model now. Prices have come down a lot on good dashcams.
This is really a shame. I did some driving on this Sunday after the holiday, and a few people did manage to cruise out of their lane (over the double yellow). People are more focused on their stupid phones; texting or what not. It seems cruisers have to strategically choose when to go out to avoid the shiznitty drivers.
Man! That is a shame. That car was beautiful, I sure hope it works out for you.
Makes me half scared to drive mine around, we all know how scarce these parts are.
Man I hate to see this. What a beautiful Cougar! I think of this every time I drive my bird. The parts are non-existant these days...the 'yards used to be full of Fox Cougars/Birds 10 years ago but they've all been crushed since then.
I'd hate to think what I'd do if someone hit my car. Its been in the family since new and I've drove it for 16-17 years. It would be hard to let it go.
I'm kind of in the same boat. My dad's cousin bought my Thunderbird new and I've had it for 13 years. If it got wrecked I'd pull the engine/trans and use the insurance money to find another clean Fox Thunderbird to drop the drivetrain into.
I'd probably 1.) cry for days 2.) go out west and find a clean body to swap all my stuff onto
No problem. I'll go over when I'm off on Friday and see what all they have. PM me your number and I'll send pics.
The driver in the truck was probably looking at his stupid f*cking cell phone instead of paying attention to the road....a lot of idiots out there on the road
Man that really suxs, I had this happen to me with my 93 mustang back in the day. I had to chase the guy down and make him stop because he was drinking. Hope all goes well on finding parts
Can't stop looking at the first picture. *Sigh*
That's really awful - glad you are ok though! Good luck. Here's a link that might help

Wow that's impressive!!!
I use this camera http://www.amazon.com/Black-Box-Original-Dashboard-Dash/dp/B00FONBG1A, night vision is incredible. I didn't want all the bells and whistles, but it has the features that are important. Again the night vision of the camera is fantastic.
Yep - these are the good units. Occasionally on sale for closer to $30 for the original (most cheaper ones are knockoffs with horribly quality and reliability). The value negates any reason not to have one in every car. My daily driver has heat-blocking film on the windshield so I have to use a mirror-mount rather than suction, and have the camera more visible as it hangs down below the mirror (technically, this is illegal in most states - you can't have anything anywhere except along specific edges of the windshield), but it still works great.
