Title: Intake Manifold Cover Plate Pricing
Post by: Cougarcruisin on July 13, 2005, 12:59:06 AM
My new manifold doesn't have a plate on it. And my plate that I had on my old manifold is broke due to me hacking at the stripped out rusted screws.

Whats a good price to pay for one

new?
at a junkyard?

Whats too high and whats too low. Having a real hard time finding one on ebay. I need to find one quick, CJ is 2 weeks away.

I have one if you want it.  I'll give it to you for shipping.  Or I can get it to you at CJ before anyone sees your engine.

I also have one, but it doesn't say "HO" on it... just the stock 5.0 plate.

Also, I wouldn't pay more than $10 for one at a junkyard, and even that's pushing it.

I just went to the junkyards today.... all three of them in the area.

I actually almost punched the guy behind the counter today. Real squirrely little prick.

I walk in and say
"Hello, I was messing around with my engine this weekend, and ended up messing up the intake cover plate. I'm looking for one off of a mustang gt."
--"Nope, no mustangs here"
me"no mustangs?  (btw this yard is HUGE) "
him"Nope" *smirks*
me"Well how about 5.0 cougars or birds?"
him"Nope none of them either" *smiles*
me"Well how about 5.0 explorers?"
him"Nope I told you we dont have anything"
me"Your kidding with me right? You dont have one 5.0 ford car in your entire yard. Funny how a few months ago when I was here asking about other more expensive parts you had everything? But now that I want a cosmetic part you have nothing"

all this in front of a customer
him"When i say we dont have anything we dont, I dont need your attitude here"
me" Fine you dont need my business"

I walked out the door and slammed it behind me.

Then i went to the other smaller 2 junkyards in the 10 mile radius. And they too give me the nope, no 5.0s.

I'm pulling the BS flag on this one.  :bs:  :bs:

For some reason they must of caught onto that. The junkyards in my area dont even allow you to go into the yard, UNLESS they are right beside you. Which is more then likely the only person thats working at the given shift. So he can't leave the counter so they just say "Nope, none here."

There are a few junkyards that I go to that are real jerks about only doing any work for high end parts. Then there is this other one, they guy let me cut out a few relays and sensors out of an LTD for my old bird and the ltd was a running car. I was like "I feel kinda bad taking the relays from a running car" and he was like "it's a junk yard, thats what we do." then charged me like 2 bucks for a ton of little stuff I yanked out of this ltd. I go there now. they let you walk around and a very helpful and charge a fair price. kinda rare these days.

yeah, I see TC's and xr7 cougars all the time. First thing they do, is pull the turbo, exhaust manifold and the TC rear end. Some times even the clusters. I would be luck if I could even find a tc rear end, and if I do, its cause they missed it. I see them strip cars before they take them in too. I wana know what they are doing with them. I asked and they didnt answer.

yah, one of the jerky ones wanted 450 bucks for a junked out TC rear end and a 5.0 HO they pulled out of a mustang they were asking 800 bucks for.. gimmie a break.

I feel bad for you guys...it's definitely a case of age discrimination. When I was 17-25, most of the yards around here would give me the serious runaround when asking for anything, even something simple. It's like, they didn't want to waste their "valuable" time on you. Once I expressed interest in buying complete interiors, or high dollar items like seats or rear ends, they changed their tune. Basically, you get a foot in the door, and then you're cool but until then they assume you're a young punk up to no good. I hated it then, hate it even more now. Funny thing, though...once you age a bit, you get more respect from yards and they let you have the run of the place. I've learned if a yard gives you a bad vibe, don't go back. Or, jump the fence after hours. :)

yeah around here they have "high voltage do not come within 10 feet" signs up and they almost all have dogs, So I havent tried a whole lot. I have before, that is how I learned that my trench coar is only barbed wire resistant. I also learned better what resistant means.

Hopefully,  by the time I'm 35, I'll look old enough to get respect. :p
I have to keep ID on me when I go to rated R movies.

just to what me and shawn do, go there with a socket set, and after paying the $1 entrance fee, whatever fits in your pockets goes home with you for $1 ;)

Ive got a section of molding for my quarter panel, misc fuses, speaker grills for the doors. and a 5.0 HO plate that shawn got and gave to me, and I still havnt tried to fix it up yet since I want to buy a trickflow upper/lower.

I must be spoiled by the yard by me. They let ya in for 2 bucks and you can stay and wonder around for as long as ya want. They don't make you buy a throttle body just to get a egr valve for example. And they are dirt cheap. I got the driver's side door molding for my Bird (Original one just fell off for no good reason) for get this $4! One thing I have noticed is that 5.0 mustangs don't seem to find their way to the wreaking yards too often. I'de suggest looking for a Mark VII for a HO cover plate. And don't bother to pay for it just pocket it.

This is true.  One time Eric and I went to a junkyard that I usually frequent.  They charged him probably 1/2 what they would've charged me for the very same parts.  Not to mention they didn't hassle him nor treat him as if it was a big inconvenience.

Whitebeast I may be interested. Ifixyawate (brian) is kindly giving me his to use at CJ just so something is there. I would love to get an HO one so when i do get the HO completely done I'll have that part already. Plus the stupid kids in my town will see the HO when I pop the hood and they will freak out. Dont mess with the coug.

Could you snap a pic for me? If its blue then thats sweet. I'm really intersted.

not the best finish but it doesn't seemed to be chipped.  It could be stripped and painted whatever color you want it.  I think it is a different color blue from your car though
