Title: Benefit of replacing the stock fuel pressure regulator
Post by: marianadeeps on May 30, 2015, 05:44:24 PM
Are there performance gains to be made by replacing the stock regulator with an aftermarket adjustable?  Or is that just hype.  I don't think there's anything wrong with my stock one but if with the bigger fuel pump and injectors,  do I need a better regulator?

Thanks.

I have a Kirban on mine. It's adjustable, but I have it set to 40psi. I didn't have one at all, and this was new, and wicked cheap, so I got it. Otherwise, I'd have bought a Motorcraft FPR.

Unless you have a really sensitive ASS-O-METER, get a dyno tune or spend the afternoon at the drag strip test & tuning, I doubt it's going to make a noticable difference...

If yours is good, I wouldn't mess with it.  My car developed a surge and I ended up replacing my stock FPR w/an adjustable BBK one.

Depends on your setup.  If you're running enough injector for your combo, an adjustable isn't necessary.  With the cam I run, If I run stock pressure, I'll get an adaptive fuel limit lean code with the 24's I have. I run them at 52 PSI and the code goes away as running more pressure will allow more flow through the injector.  The downside to this is of course it puts more restriction on your pump and will cause the PUMP to flow LESS.  I'm running a 255 pump so it's not an issue.  I REALLY have to put in the 30's and metering tube for them that I picked up...

With your combo and 24lb injectors the stock FPR is fine. I'm running a stock replacement Motorcraft FPR without issue.

I run 89 stock bottom end e7 heads explorer intake b303 70mm tb cai 76mm maf full exhaust with 19# lighting injectors bbk adj fuel press reg with a 255 walbro pump in the tank. I set the fuel pressure at 45 and on the dyno it was running lean turned up to 58 psi to get the air/fuel where the dyno tuner wanted it. its all in what ur car wants
