Title: Service light on
Post by: Cornfed85 on May 22, 2015, 12:12:39 AM
Hey all,
The service light below the speedometer started coming on when I start my '85. It stays on for a few minutes, then goes off.
Is this the same as the check engine light? Does it store diagnostic codes or does the light have to be on when I hook up the scan tool?
Thanks in advance.

First I have heard of a service light on these cars. Does say "service" on the light or is it maybe "check oil" or "low fuel" or "washer fluid" ?

1985-88's with the base, or full digital clusters, comes on every 7500 miles or so.

The service light stays on for a while, it will eventually disappear, but it should stay on continuously, not turn off after a few seconds. I believe you clear it with the trip and trip reset button at the same time. If that doesn't clear it, that's not it.

The service light shows up on the green portion of the speedo. If your getting a yellow light it would be a code.
