Title: 87 Cougar XR7. 5.0 HO and 5 speed
Post by: thunderjet302 on April 16, 2015, 04:55:24 PM
87 Cougar XR7. 5.0 HO and 5 speed. This car is about 1.5 miles from where I work! I've never seen it driving around the neighborhood. The guy wants $5250 but the paint is jacked and it has rust. Not worth that much at all.

http://chicago.craigslist.org/chc/cto/4980909413.html

This is a 1987 Mercury cougar with a 92 Mustang 302 5 speed. The motor and trans have only 5000 miles on it. New suspension all around, new tires, new fuel tank and pump, new radio, new exhaust, cam, and super clean! Asking $5250, If you're interested call me Christopher at 773-640-7121 thanks

It's seems like a good car, but yeah, that price is out of whack.  If he gets that much I'll sell mine tomorrow for $15k.....

Agreed. Only worth about half that. Wonder why he went with a MAF 5.0, which btw, were only 205hp.

Engine is from a '92, and the ad says it "has a cam"....which obviously it has to have a cam or the ed thing would be a door stop, but my guess is it has something beyond the HO cam, and that's probably why it's MA and not SD.

Clean? Sure, if rust and ripped seats are clean. I want some of what seller is smokin'. Then again, no. shiznit is bad for ya. Proof in first post. ;)

Jeez, I just realized how bad the dash was.  I thought mine was bad when I put the cap on it.  That's worse.....

Also......if I'm not mistaken, that appears to be a 50mm throttle body on the car.

Gooey steering wheel, missing kick panels, wires hanging, shaged console switch panel, Ponies, hot air intake, filthy floorboards, and is that car something besides a regular ole XR7? Like a Blue Max, or Night Cat?

Sorry if it's a stupid question...I'm not up to snuff on the Cougars and their "limited" cars... :D

I should inquire about this car and show up to look at it with my Thunderbird. Then maybe he'll have an idea what "clean" is ;).

Mine has a dash cap. It had two 3 inch long cracks in the dash that just appeared after storing it one winter. The car had a mint dash before too, even though it spent the first half of it's life in the Santa Monica area. Stupid freezing weather.

That does look like a 50mm TB. The mounting pad for the 50mm TB is much taller than the 60mm TB. I'm wondering if perhaps he swapped in a 92 Mustang long block sans intake and just reused the stock SO intake?

I kind of want to check this thing out just to see what hackery has been done to it :hick:

Take a flashlight to look at the subframes.  I bet they're nice and cancerous.

I've spent the last month cleaning up & welding mine before I put the new rear-end in.  If the outside looks like that, underneath probably looks like swiss cheese.

The underside pictures he posted appear to show a cleanish underside. It looks to have been undercoated at some point. I bet the shock towers are . Looking at the wheel close up picture I think I see shock tower rot.

That camera angle on the tire/wheel pic makes it look as if the tire is from a skid steer...

Those can't be stock Mustang size 225/55/16 tires right? I've got 225/55/16 tires on snowflake wheels and the car has a 2.5ish inch gap between the top of the tire and the fender lip.

I get a hour for lunch. It takes me 15 minutes to eat. I usually don't know what to do with the other 45 minutes. This will give me something to do! :mullet:

Before I became management I never got a real lunch break. Now I do. Go figure. I was so used to not having a real lunch break I don't know what to do with one.

That's funny. I had the exact opposite experience when I got into management.  I'm in software sales and it's generally accepted that you always work through meals.  Now that I have a decent title, I'm trying to change that for my team, but it's an uphill battle.

Offer him $500, let him talk ya up some when you go to look at it.

Gas gauge is bad, says co. Overall, would make a good swap car for any non efi motor or v-8 swap.

I'd love a fox Cougar but I just have no more room. Any more cars and I'm parking one in the street on a regular basis. Heck I have to park two cars in the street to get the Thunderbird out of the garage :hick:. Unfortunately moving is not an option as I have to live where I do because of a city residency rule related to my job.
