Title: OMG lolz $3k for this?
Post by: thunderjet302 on April 02, 2015, 03:47:34 PM
I've been casually browsing Fox Mustangs on the local Craigslist. I know that Fox Mustangs are increasing in value but this is nuts. Really you want $3K for this POS? Enjoy :mullet: I wouldn't touch that car with a 10 foot pole.
Selling my mustang I've had it for over 4yrs and ave not put 100miles on it , I bought of my uncle as a project car but never got around to it , don't have the time. It's 5.0 motor fox body runs great , strong motor and trans , manual 5spd ,,needs BODY WORK, battery, and new tiers I'm asking 3000 cash , I'm pretty much firm on the price but no reasonable offer will be refused ,

I could see it getting 3K...IF the interior is in good shape.
And there's NO rust underneath. Betting there is, though. Keep an eye on it...see how quickly it moves out...
Talk him down a grand, find a sweet little rustless mid 80's notch, and boom! Complete swap stuff. I'm really kicking around the idea of shelving my '87 and instead putting all of it's goods and parts into and on the '84 notch.
If I stay on plan though, the '87 notch will eventually be a melding of '89 LX 5.0, '94/'95, and '99 Mustangs, by virtue of the bigger swap pieces. Oh, don't let me forget the GT40/Cobra parts, too. LOL

Problem is with that car I'm betting to make it really nice (ie like my Thunderbird) it's going to need:
Body work to put it back to original GT condition and get rid of the awful bumper cover and tail lights.
Interior work
engine rebuild/trans work
It'll cost $3k plus several thousand in parts and body work. When all is said and done one would probably sink $7-10K into that thing. Or buy this for $13K and be ahead of the game: http://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/cto/4960274008.html

But there are still some reasonable people out there (even if they can't spell "convertible"): http://www.kijiji.ca/v-classic-cars/city-of-halifax/1987-5-0-mustang-convertable/1061448410?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true

For $2800 that Mustang better come with the lady in the pictures. Actually they would have to pay me more than $2800 to take the lady off their hands. A lot more.

If it's not rusty and with work done so far I don't see $3000-$3500 as a bad deal(he does say OBO)... Meaning if you want to pay $4K, I'll be happy to oblige you, otherwise I'll talk...
Here's one I rolled on the floor over... (No pict)
http://norfolk.craigslist.org/cto/4934149663.html
Seriously??? $13.5K for a FOUR Dr Maverick??? Generally you're lucky to get $3500-$4500 for a nice original... Even a similar condition 2Dr won't bring anywhere near that price...

I've always wondered about the so called svt or cobras out there for sale

Mostly it's the clueless, though there are no doubt some unscrupulous characters out there... Have to check VIN, trim codes, etc to be sure...
SVT anything with a 3.8 is asinine, someone probably burned him...

$1500 for this: http://chicago.craigslist.org/sox/cto/4977300609.html
I have a 1989 mustang gt. Light gray with gray interior. 5.0 5spd. CAR IS A PROJECT CAR!!! I want to restore it. But I have no time for it. I've owned the car for about 8yrs now. Got into an accident on the passenger side. Replaced the the fender and door already. Car runs and drives. The motor is solid runs very strong. No smoking, knocks or leaks!. Shock towers are on great condition so is underneath as well. has a stalker cowl hood with ram air kit. Flowmaster lers with h-pipe. No tailpipes. Centerfield clutch.
The main thing is the frame will need to be pulled and the windshield will need to be replaced. The replaced fender an door will need to be painted. I also have a brand new still in box front gt bumper complete kit. Like I said it's a project car. I'm asking $1,500 for the car an front bumper kit. I believe the price is fair. If u don't think so than don't bother to reply to ad.
Dude $500 is more than fair:hick:

If that is a genuine, true to the word '93 cobra, it's probably worth that. I don't claim to be a mustang guy at all, but I seriously doubt those are available as AOD from the factory. There was a "restored" one on ebay a while back that went for $25k. I was shocked. But is it ebay and who knows what drama went along with the sale and whether any money actually changed hands..

As long as we're on the topic of ridiculous craigslist ads - there was one recently for a 1994 'stang with a 5.0/5sp, cobra-R wheels and recent tires for $300. The guy rolled it missing a turn and the body was shot. He said that he didn't want to mess with it, so he was selling it for a steal for someone who can make use of all the newer parts.
I have the good fortune of having two large sheds, so I thought I could just park it, yank parts for my own build and s the remains. I have a recycling center around that pays top dollar for s and last shell I took them, I got $400.
When I went to look at it, the engine/trans were gone, the interior was gutted, and the wheels/tires that were specifically mentioned in the ad "weren't included in that price." He had yanked the rear end and swapped it with one with a 2.67 gear.
I actually pulled the ad up on the phone and read it to him, and he said "yeah, all that stuff is for sale separately, but I was going to use it in my new project, so I'll want top dollar for it."
Some people are just that way..

It's not a Cobra. 93 Cobras were only available in black, teal, or red with a gray interior (in cloth or leather). Came standard a 5 speed, GT40 heads, Cobra spec cam, Cobra intake, 65mm TB, 70mm MAF, and 24lb injectors. They are starting to creep up in price/value especially in unrestored stock condition. They are the first of the SVT Mustangs after all.

I'm starting to think most of the sellers on Craigslist are smoking some kind of awesome crack or meth :mullet:.

Figured. You're right on the craigslist meth-heads. Especially in the flyover counties of Illinois. I was fortunate to buy my car from a guy who was very reasonable to work with. Even offered to drive it to my place to help me out since I didn't bring a second driver.

For every decent guy on Craigslist there are 10 morons. I sincerely hope that Craigslist is not a cross section of today's society. If it is we're all screwed :hick:.

We don't use Craigslist here, we use Kijiji (which I think is better than Craigslist). I have a special term for Kijiji sellers on crack (and buyers too, because as anyone who has ever tried to sell anything ever can verify, people are idiots). My term for these people is "Kijidiots"

I've actually only bought one thing off Craigslist. I've looked at a few cars from Craigslist though. The people I've met have been, well, lets say "sketchy" to be polite. I'm afraid to sell anything on Craigslist as I don't want to have to deal with those people any more than I have to.

I've only sold one thing on C'list and that was a '00 Explorer Sport... Had a half dozen calls the first day and one tire kicker that was here by 8:30 in the morning... Around 4:00 a lady called that worked in a bank and said they were looking for a car for their daughter(who specifically wanted a truck) and her husband was nearby going to look at something else but she'd told him to look at the Sploder 1st... I gave her the address, she relayed to her husband(she had two phones going) and he pulled up while we were still on phone(in a Ranger P/U no less)... We met in front yard introduced ourselves, he gave it a quick look over and said if it runs as good as it looks it's sold... I rode with him not much more than around the block, he said I'll take it.. We came back to house and I said you wanna look under hood??? Naaah I know what a 4.0 looks like and started whipping off $100 bills... I signed the title and he said I'll be back in about 45 minutes to get it... Sure enough he & his wife were back in just a little while, he put his plates on it and was gone... I talked with his wife another 10 minutes before she left(not a bad babe)...
I've bought a half dozen computers from C'list, the '98 Grand Marquis(one owner 33K mi) and alsomy '96 F-150..

BTW -- In Jan was out in the country riding in the F-150(saw first Robins, no doubt froze their ass off for next six weeks) with nine year old grandson & said, "lets see if those people still have your Explorer"(was his dad's)... I'd remembered address as it was a even number(4500)... Sure enough it was setting in driveway, they'd had it almost two years at that point...

Reminds me of a few years ago when I listed that maroon '89 Cougar on CL for my buddy Steve. It was a parts car, described and priced as such.
Some woman called and asked if it was fit to drive as her whelp had just gotten released from the state pen and needed to get mobile to find a job. Also asked if I'd take payments. C'mon...a 500 dollar car? Jesus christ, lol.
That was my last CL sales post...I honestly can't remember the last time I looked on CL for something, other than the links put up here or on Corral..you know...the "look at this shiznit on CL!" type of posts. :D
I did find a really nice Mark VII quite awhile back, talked to the guy on the phone 2 or 3 times, was dickering around, trying to get a day off from work so I could go check it out and it sold. Oh well, Ford made more than one.

While there are a few idiots on the local CL, most items are generally reasonable, for one idiot now and then CL is defiantly worthwhile in this area...
I needed a cheap computer recently, found a all but new HP 110-210 with W 8.1, guy said it had been used three times and he then bought a notebook so wasn't going to use it... Lists for $299 but him being in Navy no doubt got a better price, I paid $125...

Couldn't make it worth any less, I know if I look at any thing Ford sold with a 3.8 I run away as fast as possible(which at 6.5 decades isn't as fast as it used to be, still I wouldn't touch one)
For the plug wires, including coil wire I count nine, def a 5.0...
Doesn't the disty set on a angle on the 3.8??? One in pict is straight up...

Yep. That's a 5.0 car.
You know you may be able to get it for less. Being how hard it is to find a 4-eye up by you it might be worth a little more. Not that much but more than usual.
