Title: Help! shift kit or overdrive servo problem...
Post by: tbirdmanjwg on July 11, 2005, 10:36:03 PM
I finally got to install my superior shift correction kit and B grade overdrive servo and now my car will not go into overdrive! From 1-2 and 2-3 the shifts and great... really firm and quick, but alas no 3-4. Were it would usually shift into 4th it will slip like it's in netrual. Any input would be great.

Sounds like a cut seal on the overdrive servo.

I checked the seals on the bottom cup and the servo itself and their seals appear to be fine. I reinstalled the shift kit and checked everything out in the valve body and still no overdrive. I have no idea what i did wrong. This is the second shift kit instalation i've messed up.          I'm very lucky that I just bought a 4 cylinder  ranger! I just need to get that running right.

I spent a couple of minutes looking at the shop manual and apparently it's possible for the O/D band to get out of position when the servo is removed.. When doing a rebuild, they say to hold the O/D band in place with a screwdriver while installing the servo. They show the screwdriver positioned in the tranny from the oppisite side of the servo.
