wow!!!!!!!!!!
I'm trying to justify buying it...
-steeeeep!
Aw it's only 8x10. Not really big enough for wall mounting.
This is awesome, i don't care about the original print size. Since it is buttstuffog the detail is fine to scan it and have it reprinted as a garage poster professionally. It would also be cool to add in the forum address. I have never seen anything like this before for the thunderbird.
Some assembly line videos here:

I also have some assembly line pictures from a magazine article. Thought I posted them here before, I'll have to look.
, that's nice. Lightningbird is correct...would be awesome to scan and scale up and make a nice addition to your mancave lol
Group buy? We could split the cost.
Here is some more assembly line info.

I'm down for the group buy. Or if I bought it and made a poster, I would need a couple people to rgr up for a cool poster.
I'd pony up if we could have posters made of that pic
I'd like to find the original of this photo. :hick:
It's ours guys. I sped out some junk cats (converters, not the meow kind). So who here has an in with having posters made?
Edit, my (my wife's) rationalization. If I don't buy it, it may never be relisted and lost to the ages.
I agree with you and your wife. That pic may never surface again. I guess that we should feel lucky that the person listing it knew what it was.
I'll see what I can find out about making it a poster.
Walgreens and Walmart can make them into a poster.
Just found a website called poster burner, looks like it may be the best option. They can even add text if you want.
I'd be game for an enlarged reprint for the wall of my garage
Count me in for one also.
My wife would love an enlarged print for our living room.
You need a hi-res drum scan of that photo if you want a quality poster print. The scan is worth the cost.
Sign me up for one, as well. I'll pitch in a few bucks to help defray scanning costs.
David is right...a drum scanner would be best. I used to operate one, about 15 years ago. Set it up, mark your start and stop points, make sure the lamp(s) are working, hit the button, and take a nap for the next 45 minutes.
We did. Supervisor gave not one shiznit, provided someone woke you up when it was done, so you could start the next scan. No, I'm not kidding. I got paid 14 bucks an hour (in 2001, mind you) to tape pictures to a clear drum, hit a button, and sleep half an hour, 40, 45 minutes at a time.
I'm definately down for a poster too. We should start an pay account to raise the funds needed for this poster. If it's big enough I may put it inside my racecar trailer.

Let's get a plan together here. I'll let everyone know when the photo shows up. Whomever has the best deal on having posters made needs to let me know so I can mail them the photo. I have no problem kicking in my fair share for the poster and towards the scanning costs. All I ask is that I get the photo back after the posters are made.
If you can get a consensus of size, i can get a very good price on quality prints on photo paper. The higher the total number of prints the lower the cost per picture will be.
How big would this end up being? I might be interested depending on how big it is.
Even with a very hi res scan of the photo, remember that its a copy of a copy. Anything larger than 8x10 will start to reveal imperfections. There is also a cropping issue, as 11x14 for example is not the same crop as 8x10.
Don't buy it, let me work on it for a while and do some of my fancy work, then you can all have a copy to print on gloss.

10½ in x 8½ in res 96 is what I have received it at. Made corrections and posted the image to site below. I can increase the size to a point, then it will start to become more blurry, but can maintain detail, viewed from a reasonable distance.
Printing processes create a dot pattern for the transfer of 4 color ink to paper. This will noticeable more if using a low DPI (dots per inch).
Normal is 150DPI, nice print should be 200 to 300 DPI which makes those printing dots much smaller and finer.
Here is an actual Lorain, Ohio. 1985 Assembly Line car manifest sheet. These were placed in vehicles and stayed during the entire assembly.
Then placed under back seat cushion.

If you want posters, Need to scan at a high res, probably 300. OR send the image to
poyomi.com These printers are in SF Cal and give high quality at great prices superfast turn around. They will also create photo printed books on card stock.
If you want cheap...Vista Print could maybe give a low price, but you will get what you pay for with them.
Here is a finished photo...

This forum will not allow me to upload a compressed ZIP file for downloading, so I uploaded
to my site's server and created a link below for actual size image.

That's a badass photo man.
Good stuff! Feel free to share more. Looks like the poyomi.com site is closed.
Wow that was fast shut down. I had them make a photo book for me about 3 months ago and it was fantastic. Got a $50 coupon that Mom gave me and I only spent $38 on a 30 page full page photo album. Well I guess they gave out too many coupons to stay afloat.
Why did this thread die? I thought J and M bought the photo? I was looking forward to making this thing into a Poster or really large photo. OK, really I was going to have it made into a wrap for the back door of my racecar trailer, just so it was like you were looking down the assembly line when following me down the highway.
I have the photo. Seems like the interest died. I'm still game for posters and whatnot.
Was wondering about this the other day. I am still in for helping with the cost and purchasing one if there is someone who has the time to step up and make it happen. Let us know what we need to do.
Actually my co-worker's brother is starting up a graphic design / screenprinting outfit.
I'm going to get ahold of him and describe exactly what we have here.
I can almost GUARANTEE someone in my area, if not this guy, could totally kick ass at this. Would you be willing to send the photo? Would you sell it to me? I looked at this thread originally and for some reason got sidetracked. Should have immediately bought it LOL.
Thoughts? I definitely WANT a poster of some size. shiznit, standard plotting paper should be pretty easy to make happen and that would be plenty big enough for a poster on the wall of an average house room.
I have no problem sending the original out to you so we can have posters and whatnot made. I'll even pay the return postage for the photo. I want to keep the original in my oddities and obscurity collection.
Maybe J and M should set something up for us all to buy a high res copy of the photo and then we can all do what we want with it. Does that sound feasible? If not, I can step up and get something done.
Ok, spoke to a photography enhancement studio. This is the overall lay down. $50 for the Hi Res Drum Scan initial poster size can be 24x36 poster $70. Larger is available all the way to double this size , completely baed upon the clarity of the original. He assured me that we can do this initial size no matter the photo clarity.
Just got off the phone with a company that does vehicle wraps. They use the same photo file as the photography studio and can create a wrap for your garage that can be pasted to a wall. T-Bird/ Cougar assembly line Fathead. I'll see how much further I can go down this rabbit hole.
That makes me wish I had one large door on my shop instead of 2 singles. There would be no missing my house lol.
I'm still in. Just tell me how much, and where to send for a poster. :)
The guy I know said if it's an original photo, which it is...it can be blown up many times bigger with ease. You obviously run into trouble when it's digital, printed by inkjet/laser etc.
He also stated, frankly, that given a good source image (scanned in with good equipment)...just getting it printed on glossy plotting paper is as easy as going to FedEx/Kinko's :hick:
In for a poster. Glad to see some revived interest in making this happen.
Just bought this, also from HistoricImages on eBay. They've got a few '80s Bird ones....
I'm gonna have the guy I know scan it, and I'll try Kinko's or something and see how it turns out.
Lightningbird, anything new on your front? If your source can do a "fathead" style thing, jandmmustangs should send it to you not me in that case.

I would be in for a poster as well.
I want one also :beatyoass:
Just got the one I bought, going to hand it off this week to get it scanned and then try and get a poster printed...
