When this car was first listed, can't remember exactly when...the asking price was $10k even.
I wonder what exactly goes through the minds of these people. Must be a real bummer to realize they can't get five digit prices for these cars...
EEeeew! What's with all the luggage racks!? Not bad other than that, but those racks are a SEVERE distraction ;)
Yeah the trunk-mount one was probably factory like my 20th...but the roof rack must have been owner-implemented.
You may be able to get $10k for one of these cars if:
It's an 88 Turbo Coupe in Mach 1 red with 1000 original miles and the car is as minty fresh as the day it rolled off the lot. Then maybe you get $10k.
The Craigslist orphan returns lol
Even then it ain't gonna be easy. The value of these cars is slowly creeping up, but it has a long way to go before people start paying 5 digits...
That car was for sale when i picked up my XR-7 last year. 1/4 the cost for mine and no comparison. This guy is high or crazy.......

Prices for clean examples are climbing.
$13K for what you mentioned and it's not even all original.

Clean your junk up ladies and gents; you're about to have classics. I keep saying it. Late '70-Late '80's cars are the new thing....
The air-cooled Porsche craze, E30 M3's are definitely shedding light on the time period.
Just read that Jensen Interceptors are suddenly on a ton of people's want-lists as well.
The 2-door '79 - '81 Chevy Malibu is going to be a modern '32 Ford...good luck finding a STOCK one.

The glovebox looks dirty!!! :hick: $15,900 I don't think I've ever seen a reasonably-priced '85 30th Anny bird. And this one doesn't even make any mention of the members-only jacket...
Good luck finding one that isn't rotted to hell. They're all rat-boxes up here. I had a chance to buy a nice one a few years back, replete with '70s brown paint. Even had a set of rallye wheels.
There are several around here made into very nice pro-street/hot rods. They do look great in a darker color with Draglites or something similar.
"Asking" and "Getting" are two different things. While I agree the value of these cars is climbing, it's got a way to go before people start getting those prices for them. The Barrett-Jackson effect will drive values up, as people won't be able to afford the mainstream cars and will look for alternatives, but look at it like this: This website is full of people who love these cars to death, and very few (if any) of us would ever pay 5 digits for one unless it was spectacular (like 1FASTCAT's or Eric's Cougars). If WE wouldn't pay that much, nobody will.
One thing about 70's-80's cars: They will probably gain a following from people who like to modify cars. 60's Muscle cars are too valuable in stock condition for most to modify, but 70's and 80's cars sucked performance-wise, so I think they'll gain a following with the restomod folks - people who like the looks of the old cars but want decent performance out of them...
yeah e30's in general are getting more desireable, not just the m3's. And I also think the porsche 914 is coming back too!
That's the thing. Those are asking prices. What they are actually getting is another. Even though my Thunderbird is clean inside and out and has performance mods I doubt I could get $8k-$10k for it if I sold. That doesn't bother me. It's a hobby car. It's also the first car I bought. I've had it for 13 years. It's not going anywhere anytime soon.
Had a guy knock on my door yesterday and hand me a business card. He said to call him if I ever felt like selling. Like out of nowhere. He was doing an electrical job up the street and saw it.
Get ahold of me first ;)
I'll come flyin' down 87 like no one's ever seen, troopers at my 6 :rollin:
That is impressive, however, and would definitely catch me entirely off-guard. Would have no idea what to respond with.
I've had several people ask me about buying my Thunderbird when I pumping gas (because if it's not being driven it's hiding in the garage). I always tell them no. I don't think I'd ever sell the car, at least not for what any sane person would offer me.
