Is it V6?

BTW, why is it in electrical tech? 3 speed automatic transmissions aren't electronically controlled ;)

Either a 6 or a 4, the 8's, (at least aero ones) always had the 4 speed, boxy ones might have had V8 & 3 speed, I don't know off hand.

I'd look for the shifter assembly from an 84-86 turbo 4 car.

Column to floor shift has been done many times. The three and four speed automatics use the same shifter (except the turbo 4-speed, that one uses its own unique one). To do it factory style you'll need the shifter, cable, associated hardware, and you'll need to modify the linkage on the transmission to retain the stock PRNDL pattern. If your car has the consolette (center console moves with the seat) you'll also need the console, center dash panel, ashtray block-off plate (or cig lighter panel), and appropriate shifter bezel. You'll also have to modify the driver's seat, as that consolette is welded on. The parts to do this swap may be hard to come by, and frankly you really don't gain anything from it. You'd probably be better off putting a cupholder/tray thingy there.

An aftermarket shifter from B&M or the like might be a better option...

All 5.0 from 83 and up have the AOD, i believe all the 80-82 as well, maybe optional for 82 on the carbed 3.8...but not sure.

Both C3 and C5 should have PRND21 pattern. PRN(D)DL is an AOD speciality I think.

Nope, aod is od-d-1. Aod was optional in the 3.8 until 1986. A4ld was the only 4 dent shifter.

The C5 had a locking torque converter, which was ALMOST like having OD.

If it's a 3-speed, it's a C5 and you should click here -> http://www.coolcats.net/modifying/floorshift_c5.html

1980 -82 AOD is optional with the 302 only. C4 is standard, AOD becomes standard for V8s in 83
