So last Saturday the wife and I drove to San Antonio and picked up this. An 86' T/C auto

We stopped for lunch and found this  good thing a had brought a floor jack and 4-way lol

I've got a little TLC to attend to. Replacing the rear braked as they don't work. Fluid runs right out of the left wheel cylinder :punchballs: Transmission shifts fine. Doing a tune up although the plugs look good. Sorry about the blurry pic but you can see the color.

Custom faded paint on the hood, trunk, roof, and left side :mullet:

I have to replace the tires as they are dry rotted pretty bad as well as the rt front wheel as it has a small chunk missing on the lip, somehow it still holds air. Also some interior has some parts needing replaced.
Love it! I'm currently thinking about getting an 87 TC 5 speed, but honestly, I'd rather have an 83-86.
Awesome score John! It took many years to get that paint to look that way, custom for sure! More pics...... Post up what you are missing and need so i can keep an eye out for you.
Aluminum spare AND Marchals? F*ckin' Aye!
What parts are you needing for the interior? I might have a few things..
That's a good car...lots of potential. No rust, I take it?
Bottle of Dr Pepper: +25 cool points. LMFAO
I got the car purring like a kitten today, timing was set somewhere in the neighborhood of 40+ degrees of timing, couldn't step on the gas hard at all. I had to pretty much accelerate on egg shells. It also wouldn't idle worth a darn. Reset the timing and only had to slightly adjust the base idle. Changed out the plugs, wires, rotor, car. I also found that 1 of the screw tabs was half broken - fixed
Now on to the "I had replaced the MC but the brakes still need to be bled" issue............. yes the MC had been replaced BUT the real problem was a seriously leaking driver side wheel cylinder. I put it up on jack stands and removed the wheels and the drum, which practically feel off, and it was an oily mess. After a thorough cleaning of both sides I started removing stuff. I found the springs holding the shoes on broken. I already had a new hardware kit anyway. I have to check out some other things as well that aren't working.
This was Jerry's car. The wife changed her mind and I jumped before she could change her mind yet again LOL
It had been repainted on the passenger side at some point. That's the only side that appeared on his FB page. I'm trying to convince her to let me repaint the car the XX Dark Cherry we have in the cabinet, and a silver/grey on the bottom so it looks almost stock.
I know right!! Jerry took them off so they wouldn't get stolen or broken. I'm going to refinish the covers as they are in desperate need of it. Nope, no rust underneath and just a tad around the bottom of the rear window and a few other spots. LOL about the Dr. P.
Now for what I've found needing replaced or is missing thus far;
center console lid - pic shows condition - sucks cause I have a really nice one in Indiana :{
window dew wipes and run channels - nice set up in storage as well
missing one of the door pull covers
clear gauge cover is cracked
cracked dash - sold the good one I had.................
Thunderbird grill emblem
all the rear badging.
the radio is junk, wife wants one that she can plug her phone into.............
Congrats on the new car. Looks like a good score for sure.
Congratulations, it looks like you scored a nice one.
Those "sun" custom paint jobs tend to be more common down here in the south don't they......LOL
Ron
Thanks guys,
Ron, funny thing, the car came from AZ around 6 yrs ago when the PO bought it.
I'm also changing the wheels as the wife HATES the current ones, and the fact that the sidewalls of the tires look like they're could explode anytime. I'd like to find a set of snowflakes that need refinishing and do a little custom work on them although the wife isn't sure if she likes them or not. After all it'll be her car................. :(
Hell, too bad you're in TX...I've got a set of 'flakes that need refnishing, but they have NO curb rash...just the clearcoat is chipping off. As for the cluster plastic...I've got ya covered. 15 shipped? I'll get a couple of pics tomorrow...I don't have lights out in my storage, and the kids have ran the batteries down on my big flashlight. (little buttholes)..
PM me your paypal info for that cluster plastic and send some pics of the flakes and we might work something out for shipping.
In fact, I have 2 or 3 cluster lenses, so I should have a good one. I found some batteries for my light, let me run out and look in my box of cluster stuff and get them, I'll bring them inside and wash the dust off, and throw some pics up for ya.. :)
The wheels will have to wait till tomorrow though, wife will get mad if I drag them in LOL.
That's cool. We don't want to upset the mrs............ lol
shoot me a price for the wheels.
Man that is a fine looking bird there
I don't blame ya for choosing this one, I would of done the same lol
So your looking to get rid of those wheels eh, text me if you are i might be interested in em.
Chris, I'll text you tomorrow.
Well I finished working on the bird for a little while. It's running pretty good and stopping quickly. That's the good news, the bad news is Im going to be cchangingout the rack as its leaking around the steering shaft as well as excessive movement with both inner tie rods of over 1/4" each. I also am going to replace every bushing it has. I was given a set of American racing 10 hole wheels with 2 good tires and 2 maypops. From a stand still, the bird will turn the maypops over relatively easy. I had to try once hehehe :burnout:I'll get a couple of pics but don't :flame:............yet.
My wife is actually getting excited about her car..........now to be reunited with mine :toilet:
Looks sharp! Nice score.
5-spoke wheels are just a total safe bet with these cars. Always works great.
Nice score :).
I'll tell you what after living in the "salt belt" my whole life I'd rather deal with faded paint than rust holes.
As for wheels what about ten holes the cars originally came with? You should be able to pick up a set from a Mustang LX cheap. If you need Thunderbird center caps for the ten holes/snowflakes let me know. I think I have the world's largest collection lol.
These are the temporary wheels that it's going to wear.... no :beatyoass: yet. The wife says that she kinda likes these because they're period correct.
Thanks Lou. The bosses and I were talking after work tonight and we agreed that I should use the gallon of XX Black Cherry that we have sitting (because a customer changed his mind).
oh my goodness! A black cherry T-bird. *drool* I can not wait to see that! Awesome score John!
John those are the wheels i ran on my 83 back in the day......
LOL. Forest gave these to me. They were on his 85 get when he bought it. They've been in storage for 6 or 7 years. Surprisingly, the tires hold air.
Black cherry would look pretty cool with a charcoal gray lower (al la how it's tue-toned now). Depending on how much metal flake is in the black cherry you many want to use a metallic charcoal gray on the lower vs just a glossy charcoal gray.
sheesh. those maypops would go real good on my bird. Trade ya a set of black ponies for em lol Car looks real nice John
Yep, Brandi is very firm that it WILL remain 2 tone. The XX Black Cherry isn't overly metallic and yep, a metallic charcoal Grey on bottom.LOL Thanks Clayton but Brandi is one that doesn't really care for 5 spoke type of wheels one of the maypops, is showing glimpse of cord in a few spots.
So how did your interview go? I really wish you were close, we need a couple of GOOD passionate bodymen.
For the lower gray tue-tone check out the lower charcoal gray accent from a 88-92 Mark VII LSC. I'll check what the paint code is on my 91 for you. It has a very slight amount of metallic flake. Or even the charcoal gray used on my Thunderbird.
Tires don't look dry rotted either, wow
-Nice John. i saw that one listed also. hope he didnt make you pay the extra for the fogs.....lol
Nope, they were included. Thanks
Interview went well as far as I can tell. Just waiting on a call/email. Im passionate about body work but, not able to relocate lol
I hope you get the good word on the job. I understand about not being able to relocate. But IF that ever changes, call me.
