Did anyone else know that the 5 spd 87 turbo coupe only 190hp, but the 4 spd automatic turbo coupe came with 150hp. Ford turned up the boost in the 5 spd to 10 - 15 lbs of boost. The automatic was only put at 9 lbs of boots. The only difference from an 87 TC to an 88 TC is the boost. In 88 the 5 spd cars had 17 lbs of boost and the automatic when up to 10lbs.
Yeah, the A4LD is a POS transmission and likely Ford did this to make them last more than 500 miles.
Quoted for truth. Except the 500 miles is a longshot. More likely 100
87-88's had a top mounted intercooler, cooler air makes things more powerful. And yeah, the A4LD is , they grenade behind 90 hp 2.3's!!
Inter cooler cools intake temps. I'd say it keeps power available, not makes it. The 87-88's also had a smaller turbo.
Wait I'm building up a TC auto, but I do have a parts car that's a manual, so in other word are you guys saying I should swap out my Trans and put in the manual? Grant I was thinking about doing it anyways, but is that a smarter choice to do?
Swap it now!!!
Dude! That's a rhetorical question! Swap that shiznit! :)
Was the C3 much better? I don't hear of a lot of ppl having those fail.
There are alot less 84-86 TC/XR7 auto....I went 14.00 at 96mph back in 2003 with mine...The tranny had about 80k on it....the more boost I put to it...the higher the shift points became....
When I damaged the original engine I removed the engine and tranny together and swap a drive line out of an 85TC T5....
If you need a auto and dont care about overdrive....build up a C4....just need to find that special bellhousing for the C4...
