What are you guys using to replace the strut mounts?
looks like mine are starting to shift around, I know the ultimate fix would be to get some CC plates from MM and as much as I know they will complement the suspension mods already on my car I can't swing getting them atm.
Is there a decent stock replacement out there worth getting or could I replace just the rubber?
I seen some poly bushing replacements on American Muscle for the Fox mustangs but I'm not sure if those will work for me
I believe I last used the basic Gabriel replacements last time. They were basically these: http://www.autozone.com/suspension-and-steering/strut-mount-front/duralast-strut-mount-front/ford/thunderbird/1988/8-cylinders-f-5-0l-fi/92063_632213_1749/
For whatever reason, my rubber bushings are red. I don't remember if they came that way, or I used some replacement Energy Suspension parts back then.
I've had some MM plates sitting on a shelf for years. I will get around to installing them someday.
How have they held up for you?
We're those the exact ones you used?
Btw you wouldn't want to sell those would ya lol
If your bushings were red, they were ES poly pieces. I used the same style aftermarket mounts on a couple cars a while back. They worked out just fine. Should've been installed from the factory, instead of the silly design they went with.
I've got Monroe pieces on my Thunderbird. They work great.
I use MM and this way you can set you Caster camber more accurrately
Yea MM CC plates are what I'll eventually put on my car but with my current suspension mods and it aligns well within spec with the stock strut mounts
So for now I just want to install stock replacements until I get other stuff on my car sorted out
Well thought I would update this thread
I ordered up a set of Mevo tech strut mounts for a 87 5.0 Tbird and they were a breeze to install
I got the Mevo tech branded ones from rockauto since they look exactly like the kyb or Monroe counterpart but these were easier on the wallet
I couldn't use the stock bellow/boot so I got some from AutoZone for a Fox mustang and the fit great
It got rid of the strut play on my thunderbird and I'm sure I can always throw some ES bushings in there to tighten things up down the road.
This is my daily driver and I don't track it or anything so these pieces were enough for me
