Hey everyone!
My name is Tommy and I'm from South Carolina! I've been a lurker here for a little while, but have finally decided to introduce myself since I got my 1986 Cougar GS today! I LOVE THIS CAR! It's Canyon Red and it's in mint shape! When I was a kid, our first family car was a dark blue 1983 Cougar GS. Dad made the mistake of trading in the Cougar for a 1989 Grand Marquis. Although the Grand Marquis was an awesome car in its own right, Mom and Dad regretted trading the Cougar. Dad passed away in 2012 from bladder cancer, so it's very bittersweet that we found this one as I wish he could've seen it. I take care of my Mom as she isn't doing well health-wise. She loves it too! A few months ago, the Grand Marquis was given to a neighbor of ours. So, the family has come full circle with the return to the Cougar! I've been dying for it to come and for me to be able to share the pics! This came from Concord, NC. Apparently an older couple owned it its entire life as it came with all original documentation. Here's the best part... in addition to its original 5.0 V8, it has 16,253 actual miles on it!!! Check out the pics! I'm so grateful that I can share this moment with everyone since I can't share it with my Dad. Thank you guys and gals!

Welcome to the forum , that is a real nice cat !!!!
Great lookin Cougar. And as I have said before welcome to the addiction.
Nice, very nice Tommy…………Welcome to the forum!
Ron
Great ride and super clean with incredibly low mileage. How does that happen? Incredible. Anyway, welcome. Any plans for it or going to love it as it is?
Welcome
Thank you for the welcome everyone! I'm keeping this baby stock all the way, right down to the cassette player. Actually made a mix tape for the first time in almost 20 years to play in it! One thing I may do is put some wire caps on it to replace the caps that are already on it, but other than that, no changes.
Welcome! Awesome car. My car used to be a canyon red, V8, 86 GS. Now it's something else...
You could put a set of 10 hole wheels on it (Mustang style wheels). They would also look nice while retaining the factory look. Just my 2 cents. :2c:
Welcome Aboard and thanks for sharing your pics.
I want it. Ill trade ya for mine, only 190,000 more miles.
Great looking car !!! My first Thunderbird was that colr with the red interior. My eyes adjusted after a couple of years. LOL. Take good care of it.
Thanks again for the welcome and the comments! It looks like I'm having an issue already, or a potential issue. When I press on the accelerator, it feels like the pedal is hard to push, almost as if it wants to hesitate. I haven't gotten it out on the road yet, I just noticed it while moving it in my driveway. Help!

Awesome car. Welcome to the madness!!!
Great story and thank you for sharing. Welcome to this site, as you know it is a good one.
That is a great looking car. I love a low mileage 86 5.0 with vent windows. Very awesome car. May I put a bug in your ear, some 10 hole wheels would really set that car off. You could keep the old wheels and 14" tires to bolt on if wanted later.
Anyway, truly beautiful car.
Awesome car. Great find.
Just bolt on a set of 10 hole wheels with Cougar center caps and cruise.
I'd like to change the caps on it, but money is pretty scarce for the time being. I wish someone had some '86 Cougar wire spoke caps to put on it.
Got another question for everyone... Does anyone know how to snap the trim rings back in place on these caps? Someone didn't know how to put them on and they're only on halfway on all four wheels. Can't find anything on the web about how to snap them back in place. Any help would be mucho-appreciated! :-)
I dont know anything about the polycast 14" wheel. If you are referring to the center cap of the wheel, I just use my fist or palm to hit the edge in ????? I may be missing something about them though..............
Are there other stock center caps to fit those wheels? I say 10 hole it.
No, not the center cap. There's some chrome rings, I think they're called trim rings or beauty rings that go along the outer part of the caps.
Beautiful cat!
If you decide to go with ten-hole wheels (I would) and need Cougar center caps, just drop me a line. I have a spare set I'll send you for the cost of postage.
congrats! great looking car. i had one the same color and been searching for years one just like it!
Congrats and welcome to the forum! That is one sharp Cat, cherish it as you know by now all of us would or are.....:D
Very nice cat....good luck with her.

Only pry them off or tap them back on at the clip points. Otherwise you may kink them. A rubber hammer is good for putting wheelcovers and trim rings on.
Very clean!
