Title: 87 struts
Post by: T-BUCKET on June 06, 2014, 02:12:37 AM
im sure theres a post somewhere about this already but it seems much easier to start a new one rather than searching through all the old posts. anyway, my struts are no longer struts.... lol I can push down on the fender and the car literally stays down unless I lift it back up. so I was wondering if anyone has done any cool swaps or mods to the front struts? also my car was a 3.8 but now 5.0 so I need something a beefier.

You simply need V8 SN95 Mustang struts if the car has not been lowered more than about 2".  If it has been lowered more than 2" the general consensus is to use the V8 Fox Mustang struts.  Your wallet and driving style will determine which brand of strut to run.  I used to run the Tokico Illumina 5-way adjustable struts on my Mustang with H&R Super Sport spring all the way around and to this day think it was one of the best street setups I have ever run.  Both of my cars are now coil over cars with aftermarket suspensions so what I am running does not apply to a stock style suspension car anymore.

I know alot of the guys run the Monroe's or the KYB's and seem to like them very well and both are parts store available.

It's just that easy. If you get the Monroe's or KYB's just get them for your specific car. If you feel the need for some performance dampers like the Tokico's, Koni's, or Bilstein's then order them for a Mustang per the guidelines above.

unless you swapped to v8 mustang or tc spindles, you're going to need 4 cyl mustang or non tc struts. the spindles are wider were the strut mounts in your stock set up.

Good point!!! Totally missed that. If you have not swapped to the V8 Fox Mustang or TC spindles or converted to the SN95 setup now would be a good time to upgrade to the larger brakes if you have the $$$ to swing it.
