Post by: T-BUCKET on April 19, 2014, 10:05:43 PM
anybody know what door will swap onto 87 bird? I really want to get away from the very troublesome power windows and a found a really good 83 cougar in the local junkyard with crank style windows . they look very similar to me.:hick:

They will fit. i had a buddy with a 87 xr7 that had 83-86 doors.

the trim won't line up well, and the glass won't be flush like origional.

i just got done swapping 83 doors onto my 86. No wires in the doors anymore. id kill to find a passenger mirror delete like my first 86 had.

The trim is easy enough to swap over.  Its just held on with adhesive.

The body lines are different, mldgs are easy to swap but nothing will line up correctly. What do you mean by troublesome power windows? Ive had a bunch of these and have had little to no problems with them. Doors are 83-86 and 87-88

well I did manage to get my passenger side working, the window had separated from the track. a lil glue and its good, the driver side might take more tinkering, door panel missing when I bought it and the track is in pieces in the bottom of the door. I have owned numerous fords and lincolns. always bad power windows especially the towncars and crown vics, seems the motors last forever but the regulators  out.

Good to hear your getting it worked out. Lots of us on here have had the clip/window separation deal. Guess for once Ive been lucky as I have never had a bad regulator.

If your a heavy smoker, the windows are very likely to break. especially in winter. I've had problems with all but my last two cars. 86'-83 windows have holes through the regulators and glass. they are much easier to line up and fix when they break.
