What is the best way to fix the plastic collar that holds the gear selector cable? (don't know the true part name)
Will super-glue hold well?
Can I still get this part from Ford?
This is for my son's 85 T-bird,
I secured it back to the column on my '86 with that Quik-Steel stuff. It holds really well in some cases.. but I have a suspicion that I can shear it off the column if I ever need to. Didn't actually fix that ring.. but it holds it in place well enough so that OD lines up right.
I ripped the other tab off and slipped on a hose-clamp. Works for me.
Ugh.. wish I'd have thought of that. Wouldn't have wasted so much Quik-Steel.
I converted to a floor shifter.I guess a hose clamp would've been easier.
I did the same for my old 5.0.
Yep wrap a hose clamp around it. Mine's been like that for a year and no problems.
yeah there is a write up on it on the cool cats tech section.
Thanks all, I got a hose-clamp on it, works fine now
or a zip tie would work also.
a really good zip tie
Zip tie didn't work too well for me, but I didn't break off the other half of the tab like you do when you use a hose clamp.. just threaded the zip tie through the hole there.. so maybe that's why it didn't work so well. :dunno:
If I ever have to redo it, I'll be doing the hose clamp thing next time around.
i mean wrap the zip tie around the steering column and the white clamp itself. Those things dont need to be tight as hell anyway. I didnt mean shove the ziptie through the screw holes.
on the hose clamp note, did you guys know that they are also good to help balance a drive shaft with slight vibration? I heard about that a few years ago but actually found this technique in my shop manuals i got a few months ago.
