Ok a few years back I bought an 86 T-bird for parts, the thing was beat to death. It ran like a raped ape. I recently found some pics of the heads I took off it.
The car had the AOD, 5.0 SEFI, that is where it got interesting. I would like to know your opinoin on the heads are they stock or after market. I am considering swaping them onto my 88 Cougar. And if they are stock what did they come off of.
This is the only pic I have as of now more to come later.
Can't see it all that well, but from the heart shape of the end cylinder it looks like the std E6SE head.. They have a fairly good bottom end, put power falls off quick after 4500 rpm...
You'll have the same head on your '88...
Kinda these have been shaved and had 3 angle valve job done.
Notice how shiny they are :hick:
OH yea I forgot .... Shiny = HP.. :D
Seriously though, fresh heads should be a little better. But after getting my Trick Flows, I'll never run another stock head.
1 more question. I also have a sets of e7 heads from a LSC that don't have anything done to them. Which would be better.
The ones that are "old" tech that have been shaved or the "new" tech heads.
Plus I don't have the money for a fancy set of heads for the car.
E7's hands down
Actually you have it reversed... The E7s are actually old tech, more like the earlier heads made in the mid '60s to '85. The E6 is a emissions head, that first saw the light of day with the '86 models...
Sorry my bad I figured that since the HO had them they were "new" tech.
If you haven't noticed I have no clue about what flows better whats new what old....
I tore the top end off the engine in the Cougar I looked between th e first and second set of rockers. There was a 7L3 cast into it. Any ideas on what they are?
7L3 is the casting date of the head... Decodes as '87 Nov 3...
What plugs do the heads use??? Long reach, approx 3/4" of threads or shorter approx 1/2". E6 heads use the long plugs, E7s the short.
Not sure wich plugs never changed them.
I'm going to pull the heads in the morning and flip them over to see what they look like. And to find the part number.
I hate how Ford put the part number on the under side of the head.
I will snap pics of the engine when I get it all apart.
Well I took the tube that connects the two heads to the air pump off and go a nice surprise. The head on the drivers side doesn't have a hole in it.
The tube was completely cloged with carbon. There was a taped hole for the bolt but no air passage. The heads look the same except for the missing air passage.
Now what engines came with E6's that didn't have the air passage on the back of the head?
