Title: Rubber trunk mat
Post by: thunderjet302 on February 23, 2014, 10:21:33 PM
Does anyone have a nice/mint condition/NOS rubber truck mat sitting around? My car has never had one and I'd like to pick one up. Must be in really good shape. No holes/rips/tears. It's going in my Thunderbird so it has to be minty.

I have one. It is in great shape with the exception that is has a couple of small silver looking paint stains on it. I probably should have just stained it black. Funny, I just thought of that. No holes rips or tears though. I will ship it to you for $60.

Is that mat factory ?

I passed up a nice one but thought it was just a random mat lol

I think the mat is a dealer option, as far as I know. It was an accessory.

I'd like to see if I can find a minty one that doesn't have any stains, if possible.

My cougar had a full sized spare option mounted in the trunk. I'm gonna try to swap in a mini spare and make a flat tray out of plywood and carpet it to give me a small hideaway for a small tool kit and full sized floor jack.

I pulled mine out and let the weather have it's way with it in order to get the gear oil off it that I spilled on it.  That was 3 years ago.  It's almost ready to be put back in.  I'm not kidding.  They're a good 15 pounds or so in weight.

The trunk mat was included with the factory front floor mat option on '87 & '88 cars.

There's two types that I've seen.  They look very similar but one is far thicker and heavier than the other type.

Interesting, I've never noticed that there were two different ones before. This is the only factory one I have ever seen.

I have both types.  I'd take a picture but the thicker one is stored next to a FMS spoiler, side valances and some other cars that are not at my house.  I will get a picture of the two side by side when I get up there next time (once all the road salt is washed away).
One type I can roll up but the other maybe curl at best.
