so, i did all the turbo swap stuff, the engine side of it, along with a t-5 swap,
so i hear that i have to swap computers to a LA3 computer, and also ad a VAM meter..
i was wondering if this computer makes me have to wire in the clutch cancel stuff, cause i don't want to,
i've seen some of the sites on swaping the ECU over, but i didn't understand any of it, like connect this wire to plug blah blah blah...i don't get it. ..does any body have a english version with pics to help me out here ?
Are there any upgrades avilable to the LA3 computer ? and can i run a LA2 and use my own boost control, cause how it's setup...it's set at 7 lbs, and i'm adding a MBC setup,
If i go with a LA2 opposed to an LA3 ... will i have to go with a VAM meter ?
Thanks
Nick
any ford EEC thats for a turbo car is going to require a VAM
as for the LA2 and LA3, theyre pretty much identical other than the LA3 allows full boost in first and second gear, where as the LA2 limits it in first and second gear, and the other gears gets the full 15psi
upgrades for the LA3? there isnt any really needed
you can run a manual boost controller with any ford EEC
did you swap the full wiring harness, or did you just drop the engine in alone?
also, i can provide *some* help, but the guys over at turboford.org know these swaps MUCH better than i do, or mostly anyone here, so that would be the better place to go for help
i only swaped an exhause mani from an 85 t-bird,
the oil feed and return are custom,
and the turbo is outa some other car,
i didn't pull the block, i used my N/A block (wanted more compresson)
i didn't change any of the wiring or injectors
i can't use turboford.org they want an email adress that's not hotmail, aol, or yahoo.
psst are there any ways around going with a whole new computer setup ? block of MAP sensor, or something in that nature ?
Nope... And you're never gonna get it to run right till you do... Also being a NA motor with cast pistons, it'll blow up if you keep pushing more than 5-6lb of boost at it.
FYI the stock 4cyl inj are only rated at 14lb of fuel flow, no where nearly enough for a boosted engine... The LA2 & 3 require 35lb inj..
You gonna have to bite the bullet and swap the computer, do the wiring changes, install the VAM, and the injectors, as well as a better fuel pump. The stock 4cyl pump ain't gonna hack it(maybe if its new).
i have a set of injectors
i'd like the injectors....what do you want for them ???
Are there any right ups on swiching the fuel pumps? i'd rather not do this...but okay...should i do a in the tank pump? or by pass and do one on the frame rail??
the whole blowing it up thing, i'm not gonna drive it hard until i get my other block built
it's gonna be another 9.51 comp motor, and i'm gonna run 15 lbs of boost,
that should give me plenty of power,
How about a set of bigger injectors ? 42 lb or so ?? or something along those lines
Am i going to have to change to fuel regulator too ?
Man if i knew it was gonna be this hard...i woulda finished my truck first !!
As far as upgrades for an LA3 computer, I know the twEECer works on it.
im thinking maybe 45 shipped for the injectors? they brown tops, 35# injectors, theyre meant to work with the large VAM
if you did a stock rebuild using a turbo engine, turbo head/block/rotating assembly, it would put your compression to 8.1:1 or so, and you could easily make more power, right now, im running 15psi and making some decent power, with just small tweaks, i plan on running 18-19 after i put exhaust on the car
45 for the injectors ?! that's a hay of a deal .....yea i'll do it, lemme figure out how to send you money....paypal or some thing ??
are there any other injectors that i can look for when i do my next motor ??
Like 45 lbs injectors ? or some thing big enought ??
Am i gonna also have to change the pressure regulator ?
How about f-pump ?
can some one take a picture up close of there upper intake ? i have some vacum lines that are doing nothing.. one was for the auto tranny, i know that for sure,..but there is one coming off of the press. reg. and i have no idea where it goes....and the PVC system..that's another story..
The stock pressure regulator will be fine, its vac line just connects to manifold vac and increases fuel pressure under boost conditions...
The PCV ain't a biggie either. There is a cannister between the Dist and oil filter that has a connection for a 5/8" or so vac line. The large end of the PCV slips into it(hose connected to the nipple), and vaccum for the other end is picked up from a elbow on the lower side of the upper intake...
Your stock 4 cyl pump is 60lph, 2.3 turbo & HO 5.0s use a 88lph while the 3.8 Super Charged engines use a 95lph. Most folkes go with a Walbro(they mfg the OEM pumps) high output fuel pump... They are available in 155, 190, & 255lph std and high pressure varietys(255 only). Most seem to go with the 255, but I consider it overkill(I seriously doubt the stock lines can pass that much fuel back to the tank). I'm using a 190 lph and have sprayed 150 HP shot of nitrous on my 5.0, all while maintaining 85 psi fuel pressure...
shoot me a PM, i dont have paypal, so money orders work
as TC50 said, your stock regulator will do you good
when you convert to VAM, your vacume lines will change mildly, since you wont need you MAP sensor on a vacume line, but on the intake manifold, there is the line for the fuel pressure regulator, and the line that runs to the vacume manifold on the firewall, the nice large line, then the PCV line is on the underside of the manifold if i remember correctly
as with the fuel pump, is you plan to run 15psi of boost only, a 190 should be more than enough, i run a 255lph high pressure, mostly because i eventually want to run 24psi, add that to maybe 38-39psi of fuel pressure, that would be 60+ psi of fuel pressure, and i plan on doing longer runs, not just 1/4 mile, but id like to try my hand at open track events, so i want no reason to run lean
as for larger injectors, they wont really be needed, you can work with your fuel pressure a little but later on, but the injectors can and will support about 25-26psi, so as long as you have injectors that are in good shape, theres no problems
i'll do the injectors...
Some one wouldn't happen to be cool as all get out, and take a pic of there vacum wiring on the fuel press. reg, and the upper intake.
Also i really really really really need a pic of the wiring harness from the VAM sensor, i have the bigger one, with the 3" hole
I didn't relise the swap was that easy, maybe i get this done to night !! woot woot
what's the deal with a fuel pump ?
Who knows where i can get a fuel pump kit ?
Any one have a rebuild kit for a turbo ?
mine needs one pretty bad, 1/4 shaft play, leaked oil like no tommrow.
Happy 4th tommrow !
http://www.jdsperformance.com/index.asp?initemuid=436&fcmd=item&inmake=all
theres a link for fuel pumps, if you dont plan on running more than 15psi, a 190lph would work just fine

turbo rebuild kit
so when i change my motor, to a stroker, and build the outa it to hold 25 lbs of boost, what pump am i gonna want to run ?
thanks for the link on the turbo rebuild, my first turbo decide to leak outa the main housing, and my next turbo decided to leak into the exhaust housing, let's just say i didn't buy any smoke bombs this year !!
opp..almost for got !! can i change my compressor housing to a NON ford style ?! one with just a round hole's on it ?! i hate these s
grab a 225lph high pressure pump, thats whats in my car
what do you mean by a non-ford style ?
the s on my ford, have the thermostat looking s for inlet and out let on the compressor side. i don't want that. i want the round ones.. !!
thanks for the info on the pump !
what year car is the turbo off of?
1985 t-bird i think, that's what the gasket set i got was...and it's all the right ones,
i didn't get that money order sent today, had to work !! boss called, and said i have to work early so i had no time...tommrow i will
