Title: HOW TO - Replace Moon Roof Weather Stripping
Post by: ChristmasGT on January 27, 2014, 11:24:35 AM
Hey There!

If you're like me and can't stand the noise from your Moon Roof you're in luck!  Here's quick guide I put together after doing the much needed replacement yesterday:

I've got a step-by-step process outlined here with images (http://"http://imgur.com/a/W6lsM#0").  You can read the comments at the bottom that describe each step as well.

What you'll need:
The Sunroof Doctor Kit: Here (http://"http://www.sunroofdoctor.com/8788thunderbird.htm")
A Phillips Screw Driver
Cleaning Agent to get the old "tar" off the sunroof glass.

The Sunnroof Doctor kit contains self-adhesive on the weatherstripping.  So no need for anything else.

The whole process took about 2 hours and wasn't too bad, cleaning the glass bezel was by far the most time consuming part.  But now the noise is completely gone and seems to seal almost perfectly making it so much better to drive.

this kind of information needs preserved and i recommend you contact Eric at coolcats.net so your information can be preserved in a secondary back up location.

Thanks!  The car's old seal was almost unbearable on the highway as it would introduce a ton of noise into the cabin.  It's now pretty much 100% quiet thankfully.

IMGUR is a great image repository.  They've even included a built-in download option if you'd like to download the images directly.

On that link above, you can click the "Download" button on the right side and will automatically download all the images in zip format.  If you have other hosting preferences feel free to upload to any other provider since it does suck when links go bad.

Great "how to"!  I purchased the weatherstrip from Sunroof Doctor and impressed with the quality (3M brand).  There is ZERO wind noise after replacement.  Should have accomplished long ago.

I just noticed this write-up.  Thanks for doing it!  I purchased the kit from Sunroof Doctor almost a year ago but I haven't put it in yet because I have a broken lifter arm.  Kafer79 is hooking me up with a replacement (thanks for that!) so hopefully I will soon be enjoying the moonroof the way it was intended.  About 8 years ago or so, when I was younger and dumber, I just put a bead of silicone caulk around the whole thing.  It got rid of the noise, but it kind of defeated the purpose of the moonroof.  This will be much, much better.

Just kidding great post!! We go through hell replacing some of those roofs when they are hit. Especially the new ones that open 3/4 of the roof line.

Or you can be lazy like me and use vinyl vehicle wrap and cover the whole roof. I think a track is broken in mine and in the 14 years I have owned it, never really care if the moonroof worked or not.
