Title: Tiny Boneyard score....UPDATE
Post by: vinnietbird on January 11, 2014, 11:12:20 AM
Went to the boneyard and got my trunk hinge I've been looking for. On the same car, I got the headlight switch, manual driver side seat track, seat back frame, and the center of the the center consolette. It was for power mirrors only. No options.

That car didn't have a rear window defroster,no intermittent wipers, no cruise, and a crazy simple cassette player (factory). I'm going back in a couple of weeks to get the manual window regulators and the minty dash, package shelf (perfect and blue), and maybe the stereo as well. .

The headlight switch looks brand new. No dust or anything on it at all. It really looks mint. The no-cruise steering wheel is also in the garage now.

This is an '88 Thunderbird, white exterior, blue interior. The interior looks mint. No fading on the seats, package shelf, nothing. Looks like it had been garage kept forever. The ashtrays were like new. No smoking in that car. Headliner is mint as well. It has a base dome light, not the one with the extra lights on the side. Beautiful interior. I took the seat back for my car, as one of the guys at the shop messed mine up (that gangster lean) when it was in for paint. I didn't complain, free paint job pretty much.

I know what you mean Vinnie. There are a couple little things that I'm not entirely pleased with on mine, but for the price I am paying I can't really complain. I just have to finish off a few things myself to get them how I think they should be.

That hinge will probably be going on tomorrow, THEN I can have a clear mind and do other things. That bothers me like crazy.

My car isn't perfect. There are a couple of little "this and thats", but, as i stated, free paint job, AND, it's a driver. And, it's still pretty awesome.

Is the driver's door solid and rust free?

I boogered mine up awhile back and don't have any more rust-less doors...

That car has ZERO rust on it. I'm telling you, it HAD to have been garage kept it's whole life. The seals looked brand new. The interior is mint, not a dent on it. Ultra low option. Manual windows, no rear window defroster, no power trunk release, no power seats, no intermittent wipers, a simple factory cassette player, no cruise.  But the body is awesome. It looks like it may have been repainted. If it was, it was done right. Great looking car. I didn't know when I pulled parts the first time that he was thinking of selling it. if I had known that at that time, I would've bought it. Oh well, I'm slowly grabbing the good stuff. Going back in two weeks for the dash and the window regulators and stereo..

Oh, and shipping would be deadly.

Too bad you didn't live closer, I have a door, but again, shipping would be horrible for you.

I'm always amazed how cars like this end up in junkyards??  Doesn't someone have a slight clue it may be worth something if it's that clean?

Don't post any pictures of it, don't want to get sick! :hick:

Good score on your parts though.

I may grab a pic or two when I go next week. Sad, but it is helping my car out, so, the circle of life.

I was able to grab some pieces from the car.....

-Dew wipes...still rubbery and great
-headliner...minty (may recover it for the Sport)
-Power door lock delete pieces (fill the holes where the door lock switches go)
-Column covers (column shift...NO TILT!!!)
-Package tray cover in blue (minty, the board is still stiff, no fading or damage)
-a/c-heater controls.... defrost delete
-manual window regulators and handles. (Super nice shape)
-dash cubby...very nice
-crack free blue dash
-Minty fresh blue sun visors with no lights.

It's crazy. I've never seen such a low optioned car. None of the following....

trunk release
fuel door release
tilt
power locks
defroster
electric windows
dome light with the two side lights on it
intermittent wipers
power seats
Cruise control

Those are the things I see in nearly every one of these cars...for the most part, but this car had none of it. I'm glad I got most of the hard to find stuff. I have never seen power door lock delete inserts before either.

Now, lunch, relax for a minute, and then go ship some package I needed to ship last Friday.

vinne, how hard would a power door to manual conversion be?

I allotted the money I had for those doors into this other cougar instead, I was waiting for this car for quite a few years.

if you don't have a place for the manual window stuff, i will have money for you.

Haystack, It would be very easy. There were 3 rivets on each side, but small bolts would do the trick easily. Remove the glass from the top of the door, then pull the tracks and motors out, replace this set up and bolt it in. It actually weighs very little, and it's an easy set up. I also grabbed the handles as well with no damage to them. The only "mod" to install these would be to cut a small hole in your door panel for the crank shaft to go through. The hole in the door itself is already there. Personally, it's only the second Bird I've ever seen with roll up windows, and the first in the '87/'88 model Bird.

And by the way Haystack....I won't be keeping these regulators. LOL.

Why do all the really nice cars end up in the junkyards and then when one finally pops up for sale locally, It's usually really beat down and worn out...

Good question. If I knew then what i know now, I would have bought the car. He told me (too ate) that he was thinking of just selling it for $600 when he got it in so he could make some money and move on. $600........that would've been awesome. But I didn't know that til after I went at it three times in 2 months. This was very well taken care of. The interior had virtually no signs or wear. The seats had no fading and no wear even on the driver seat.No dusty pieces at all. Had to have been garage kept. At this point, though, I can't really think of anything I want from it. I may think of something before they give it the crush.
