Title: Newb and my 86 Bird
Post by: MeanLX on December 18, 2013, 11:31:35 PM
Hey there, my name is Tony. Picked up this 86 a couple months ago. It's a 3.8 with a 101,000 miles on it. I'm planning on swapping in the EFI 5.0L out of my Mustang. I hope to have it done for HRPT in 2015 but we'll see how that plan works out.
Anyways, looks like a great board. It's hard to find tech info on these cars.

Thanks guys. What is the deal with the vent windows? Was that an option each year from 83-86?

Welcome, I started here little over a year ago, with a blank t-bird, now with the help of the members, she is almost ready to roll.

I saw your build thread 83TB. You definitely put a lot of work into. It looks good.

Slapped on some 10 holes I had laying around. I can't find one of my center caps though. I'll have to pick one up on CL or something.

Wow that is a clean 4-eye.  Love the period correct black paint w/red pinstripe!  I'm not normally a fan, but the t-bird mudflaps are cool on that car for some reason!

Thanks, I haven't decided if the mudflaps are staying or not. Probably hard to come by now. lol

I've only seen a handful of vent window cars in the last 10 years. 86 was the last year, and I would think the most rare.

That car is beautiful, the paint looks amazing. Any interior shots? Does the hood have pinstripes on it as well? For technical information, check out coolcats.net or use the search function on this board.

Thanks guys. I don't have any interior shots at the moment. I'm not sure what was standard on these but it's got power everything, digital dash, full console, locking gas door, remote trunk release, a/c, and thats about all I can think of at the moment.
No other pinstripes on the car.

I don't think you have an élan model, just a very well optioned base car.  The élan was the luxury group and came with a lot more standard options and upgraded interior. No matter cause its a beauty either way.

Wow, clean car. Just don't find many like that anymore.

I'd just drive it as it is!  :hick:

Good luck and Welcome!

Hey OP...are you looking to make more power, or big power?  Or just a nice cruiser?(which it will do just fine)

I have a set of center caps, I'll check them on the 10 holes that are on my other bird. If they fit, they're yours.
Beautiful Bird btw !!!!

Just going to swap the 5.0 out of the my Mustang. It's just a stock shortblock with HCI. Not sure if the bottle will come with or not because I'd like to do a turbo at some point we'll see though. It's going to be more of a cruiser.

I love the look of 10 holes on t-birds.  My 85 turbo coupe had them and had the Bird on the center of the cap, I LOVED that car.
