Title: 86 3.8L V6 Harmonic balancer
Post by: Fordracer08 on December 04, 2013, 03:28:29 PM
I am in need of a harmonic balancer for my 86 T-Bird 3.8L V6. The rubber has decided to start separating from the balancer. I am not sure what years are the same and will fit my 86. I am looking around locally but have not had any luck yet.
Thanks.

Well Son of a Gun! The only place I didn't try. The description says 3 3/4" hub height. Mine measures 3 1/2". I will research this some more and see what I can come up with. Thanks for the help! I see your in PA too.

That would be cool. I enjoy searching salvage yards to see what I can find. Have you ever been to Harry's U-Pull-It in Hazleton? I may have to make a trip there if I don't find a balancer for my T-Bird. No Autozone stores stock that balancer so I can take a look at it. The hub height is listed as 3 3/4". Mine is 3 1/2" high. I have been searching the internet but can't come up with any balancers with a 3 1/2" height. I found a listing at O'Reilly Auto Parts. It is listed as 3 3/4" height also. I hate to order one and have to send it back. A quarter inch is a lot when it comes to belt alignment. If it was 1/4" short it would be different. It could be shimed up.

Yeah you're definitely right, 1/4" is a huge difference. I've been to Harry's quite a few times. Their website now has an inventory list by location (that kicks ass when shopping for cross reference parts). I usually goto EZ pull. I was up there last weekend and they have 4 85/86 birds in there. 3 of em are 3.8 cars. If my wife gives me the ok I'm gonna try to head back up there this weekend.

I have a hard time believing there are two different balancers with just 1/4" of difference between them. But then again you never know. Yeah, it does help to be able to check the inventory at Harry's before you drive up there. It's a good hour and a half ride for me. Where is the EZ Pull located at?

Ez pull is in New Ringgold PA. I'm sure you've been to Greeble's and Klingers then too. Where in Dauphin are ya located?

I live along SR 322 in Water Gap which is just to the north of Dauphin Borough. It is actually Middle Paxton Township. I never heard of Greebles and Klingers. What is it?

Greeble's is outside of myerstown and klingers is in pine grove. Ill probably be swinging thru your area this weekend. My wife and I breed sporting and show Australian cattle dogs. Our female is up in middleburg getting well......for lack of a better term inseminated. If all goes well we will be picking her up this weekend.

Yeah, I'm not familiar with either one. I'm sure you will be going up 322 to get there. My Parents live in Selinsgrove which is just down the road from Middleburg.

What time does EZ Pull open on Saturday? I may have to go look for a balancer. I know they have some 85/86 T-Birds in the yard since you were just there.

Cool! I believe I am going to run up there and see if I can find a balancer. I have not had any luck finding one closer to home. EZ Pull is closer for me than Harry's. Thanks for the info about their T-Bird inventory. I will have to go up early Saturday morning as I have other commitments later on Saturday. Sunday the weather looks ugly. If you decide to go to EZ Pull Saturday let me know and we can meet up.

PM sent.

Well, I found a balancer at EZ Pull. Thanks Justin for the info on their inventory. I also found some horn button/switches for my 93 Mustang. It was a little soggy from the rain last night but other than that it turned out to be a pretty good day to search for parts. I just wished I had more time to look around some more. Maybe I will get up there again in the spring to look around. Sorry we couldn't meet up Justin. Maybe another time.
