Title: Classique Cars Unlimited weatherstripping and hood blanket experiences?
Post by: JR97COBRA on November 22, 2013, 08:49:08 PM
About to start restoring/restomodding my '83 and wonder if anyone has purchased the hood blanket, door weatherstripping, or window wipe kit from this company and how faithful they are to the original parts.

Thanks.

I have not heard of them, but I need to find a better hood blanket too.
I'd be interested if anyone has found a good source to replace theirs.

Thanks for the info.  Will likely get my hood blanket from Class-Tech.

Probably going to bite the bullet and just order all the rubber from Steele, since it seems like they've got a pretty good reputation amongst the GM guys, their weatherstrip kit is a bit cheaper, and their dew wipes come attached to the molding already.  Searched for the vent window felt at JCWhitney, but the part number given in an earlier post (KM810358) doesn't seem to work anymore.

I looked at Steele's site and did not see where the dew wipes were attached to the molding.  Did you call and confirm this?  I need new ones but do not necessarily need them attached to the molding it is super easy to drill the rivits on mine and replace.  Makes me wonder if Classic is just not buying Steele's stuff and reselling.

It would be nice if Steele would offer the window run channels :( But it's great that you can now get just about everything else from them.

The jc Whitney ones are dead nuts, I'll have to look for the ones I used but are super cheap!

I thought you had to trim the dew wipes from JC Whitney?  I ordered two sets because of that and still have them in the box as I have not had time to mess with them.  I will most likely be offering them up for sale now that I know where I can get them ready to install.

That's the problem...JC Whitney constantly changes part numbers for everything. They DO have pretty much the correct window dew wipes for 1983-86 cars. I'm running them on the convertible with no issues whatsoever (minor tpuppies needed for vent windows). However, the part numbers that I used will not be what's available today...or tomorrow...

I was doing a little research on the window run seal (KM 810358) which JC Whitney had carried. It turns out the new number is F1007 which is manufactured by Fairchild. It is listed for a Ranger with a vent window. I looked it up on the JC Whitney site as an 86 Ranger and right next to the new number is the old number(810358) used as an SKU number. I also found out from a Rep at Fairchild that JC Whitney was bought out by US Auto Parts. That explains the part number changes. I need these seals for my Bird also. They are $27 at JC Whitney and Rock Auto has them but they are $31 through them.
