Title: Need advice
Post by: SR7188 on October 28, 2013, 11:11:26 PM
So i was replacing my leaky pinion seal in the rear end and i washiznitting the seal out with a hammer and this clip falls out from somwhere its a metal duckbill shaped clip with a hole in it just want to make sure it didnt come from the seal, bearing, shaft etc before i put it back together and does it matter how the pinion  go's on or do you just have to worry about the nut

Post the part as i am curious as well. But you already messed up by not marking the pinion nut. You just can not hammer it tight with an impact. This will effect your pinion preload. never remove a pinion nut without marking it unless you have a crush sleeve eliminator. Basically you are going to have to judge the tightness with finger feel. And if you have never dun it before you will either have the nut to loose or to tight. never remove a pinion nut without marking it.

Not sure if you marked the nut. You may have . But you did not say you did. Hopefully you marked them like bellow. Always make a witness mark on the nut and pinion shaft as seen bellow. Hope you did. Also plenty of elephant snot behind the nut and plenty of RED lock tite on the threads. Good luck!!

Yes i marked the shaft and nut but not the  does it matter if its in the same place.Ive heard when you reuse the old crush sleeve you should line up your marks and add 1/8th of a turn or set the nut too 100lb/ft.Ill try to put up a picture of the clip. How can i test my bearing to see if it was the cause of my leaking seal.

Good i am glad you marked it and the  does not have to be indexed. And yes go a slight bit more if this is the first time the nut has been taken off. And use a FORD SEAL ONLY!~~Now show the clip??
