Title: Engine weight
Post by: White85GS on October 16, 2013, 03:55:56 PM
I was curious, how much does a 5.0 weigh vs. A 3.8? Specifically a tbi V8 vs a multi port V6. I magine the V6 is a lot lighter, fewer cylinders and aluminum heads.

I think the 5.0 with front dress weights about 500lbs. A 3.8 is probably about 100lbs lighter.

Oh ok. I was trying to figure out the power to weight ratio, sounds like a fox w/ a V8 would weigh about the same as a MN-12 w/ a N/A V6.

the lightest I've seen a mn-12 was 3800 lbs. I've weighed mine when it was empty (old 87, almost fully optioned 5.0) and it weighed 3400lbs or so.

I almost forgot, my buddies sister had a 94 xr7 4.6. it was about the same speed. we did a couple of freeway runs and who ever took off first won.
