I have a 1986 cougar with the base cluster the speedometer will only read in kilometers per hour I have changed the module out a few times with no luck so I think its on the vehicle electronics side. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This is my first post on these forums although I have owned a cougar for over 10 years lol.
so what happens when you turn the key forward then you press the " E/M" button.
E= english
M= metric
since you've changed out the module a few times,, you should also have a "S" illuminated in the bottom center of the module itself denoting its not original.
if you open up the module and view two circuit boards, one of the boards will have a location called "W2", add a jumper wire across this area and now your speedo will go beyond 85mph on the english setting.
Yeah his E/M button might be broken
need another cluster? I have a spare I will never use.
Thanks guys I thought it might be the switch just thought I would pick you guys brains to see if I was missing something I guess I will break out the soldering iron. Thanks 88turbo but I have a few parts laying around to pick through. This is my second cougar I have an 86 with an injected 347 mass air conversion so I am no stranger to wiring.
Turns out the ground I'm the plug was in the #1 pin and should have been in 18 that fixed it. Just in case it happens to someone else not sure how it happened but it did.
