Title: Wow!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like Ford is going to make the SVO again. 4 Cylinder mustang turbo. Rumor at Ford says it just might be the new SVO. That would be cool!!

That ecoboost four will have to be something special considering the stout lineup of engines ford has to offer. Back in the day the 70s design 2.3t would hang with the 60s born 302 in a straight line. Fast forward to today and we have 5.0 vs 2.3t both new. I know the SVO was known for its handling and technology but this may even be a harder sell than it was originally. That being said I'd still kill for an 85 1/2 SVO! I also read there may be additional engines in the lineup like a 2.7 six turbo to make your car buying decisions easier.

I seriously doubt any type of i-6 engine simply because they do not fit. its impossible for the break away motor mounts most front wheel drive cars have and take up a lot more engine length then  a v-6 or 8.

What I heard is that the 4 cyl coming will be a 2.3L GDI-T.  The Focus ST has the 2.0L and it makes 252 HP, the Fiesta ST has a 1.6L and makes 197 HP, so I expect a 2.5L to make about as much as the current 3.7L base engine, maybe slightly more.

I want one for a TurboCoupe.  They'll probably hit the catalog just before they hit the streets.

I think its a cool idea to have a turbo 4 'stang and applaud Ford for doing so.  I just don't know how many buyers will stray from the sound/torque of a V8 in a performance "pony car".  Sure they sell tons of V6's but most of those are not to enthusiasts.

That being said Ford really needs to step up their game with something to replace the Boss 302.  I was just reading about GM tackling the 'ring with their new Z/28 and it sounds like GM is going straight after the Mustang's jugular with that car.  Ford clearly wins the battle in straight line acceleration with the GT500, but they need a track/handling car to compete!

Uh I've got a 3.7 V6 Mustang ;). It's got plenty of power for the street as a summer/nice weather DD. With a tune it'll whoop up on 3V 05-09 GTs. The 3.31 axle/6 speed 3.7s run almost identical times to the 3V/5 speed GTs of 05-09. Hell my Thunderbird is barely faster than the 3.7 Mustang. The 3.7 is the first Mustang V6 that doesn't suck.

Believe me I really though about buying the 5.0. The issue was I knew it would generate quite a few tickets as I'd drive it like an idiot :burnout:

I think if they really want to do a new "SVO" they should go with the 3.5 Ecoboost. But then it would probably be faster than the 5.0.........

The point I was trying to make is that not too many people buy a V6 for the sole purpose of racing it or modding it, etc.

I know I was just messing with you. The problem with the internet is there is no way to show sarcasm :D.

You're right most people who buy the base Mustang don't modify them. Actually most people who buy brand new cars don't modify them as they are trying to keep the warranty intact. It's us crazy people who modify cars. Plus with new Mustangs/Camaros with V8s being expensive most people are shelling out a large part of their income just to afford the thing. That doesn't leave much for go fast parts.

I still can't believe they made the base V6 Mustang as fast as they did. Hell with 305hp it will out run most cars on the road. The only reason we bought it was because it was actually fast. I think if they didn't offer this engine we would have bought a GT instead as the old V6 Mustangs were boat anchors.
