heck, even the passenger mirror was an option.

honestly, the 87-88's came pretty well optioned in base trim, it was the 83-86 that could come with no options. I think the most popular options were cruise control, intermittent wipers, power locks, mirrors, windows and driver's seat, power truck release, rear defroster.

I think the most popular options were the dome light with the 2 outboard map lights, rear courtesy lights, front footwell courtesy lights, cruise control, intermittent wipers, power locks, mirrors, windows and driver's seat, power trunk release, rear defroster.

Mine has all of that. I'm pretty sure mine is 100% fully loaded from factory. The only thing I can think of that it does not have is the stuff the TC had and LX didn't get. I have (had) leather, power driver and passenger seats, rear defrost, electronic climate control, power moon roof, auto headlight dim, keyless entry, number code on the door for unlocking it, power trunk, electric antenna and so on. All of it :) She's almost better equipped than my Mark Viii :P But not for long, most of that stuff are already gone and more are being deleted.

true, but you could also delete those options, which means there are still almost as many.

when i gutted my 88tc, I found something under the drivers seat called a memory module, or something like that. No idea how it worked....maybe to do with the keyless entry?

see if you can find the build sheet under the passenger seat, under the trunk carpet, or behind the passenger side rear panel. this will talk you exactly what options you have.

Good question, but I have never seen one without tilt.
On the other hand, I have never seen a zero option (well, it had power mirrors) '88 Thunderbird til a couple of weeks ago.

Personally I have yet to see 87-88 without power windows, locks, cruise, AC, and FM stereo!
Not sure on the 83-86.

This is for 88 Cougars but Thunderbirds should be about the same: http://www.coolcats.net/fox/1988options.html
My 88 Thunderbird has every option but a sunroof and block heater. It's a LX car so it's already optioned up to begin with. My car has things like dual power seats, power recline, and leather.

Keep in mind that the list from my site is only for Cougars in 1988. The LS options would probably be identical to that of a Thunderbird LX. However, the Turbo Coupe and Sport models had their own options not equivalent on any Cougar.
I have found that the 1988 Thunderbird sales brochure is better at giving options for that model. You can find one on eBay or at a swap meet, more than likely.

I saw one without power windows in the yard recently. It looked odd to see crank windows.

You're probably right. The base Thunderbirds were not as well equipped as the LS Cougars were. I think the Cougar LS and Thunderbird LX were pretty close on standard equipment.
I've got an 88 Thunderbird sales brochure at home. I should just scan the options page and post it here.

Next time you hear the message that you should be changing your oil every 3k miles; think about who it is that you are hearing it from. ;)

So that "service" light on the base and full digital clusters must be, or can be used as an oil change reminder.

Interesting brochure, jandmmustangs. The original owner of my TC checked every option except auto (thanks!) and leather...

I am an auto tech and if you'd seen some of the oil Ive seen with over 3000 miles on it you would think like I do. Its cheap insurance that the motor gets to stay in one piece. Look at Gm's 4.8, 5.3, 6.0 oil consumption issues, Every one that we have had need major work for it was going by the oil life monitor for oil changes. Guess what 5000 + miles between all of them between changes. Ill stick to every 3000 myself!
