Title: sn95 swap
Post by: teal9550 on September 22, 2013, 07:57:12 PM
So there is a running 95 5.0 auto mustang gt that was wrecked I'm wondering how many of those parts would fit my 88 tbird 5.0

That engine shares a lot more parts with the 91-93 T-Bird/Cougar 5.0.

Take the engine, bolt on your accessories and your intake until you can get a better one, toss in a Speed Density H.O computer, new exhaust and go. Also, the front and rear suspension are good for the 5 lug upgrade. Under all those SN-95 external engine parts lies the good ol' 5.0 H.O that would work easily.

I knew the long block would work, I was hoping to use the rear diff and front brake parts including the 16" wheels and tires. What about springs? would the seats work?

The springs will work as well. Good for about a two inch drop. The seats will work, but they usually have rthe Mustang pony stitched into them. That would NOT be happening in my Bird.

yeah I guess mustang seats in a bird wouldn't fly I just don't like the seat in it very much they seem to cramp me in the car, I've got way more room in my 91 mustang, of course at 6'5" 320lbs room is always an issue!

Keep looking. The seats are out there. With work, a lot of seat choices are out there.

there are two sets of holes in the tbird seat bottoms. you can move them back and get another 1"- 1 1/2" out of them this way. manual tracks are also shorter and weigh many times less.

I'm 6'5 so I know your pain. I hate having someone in the back seats.

btw, sn-95 stuff is ideal, springs, axles, every thing. it will drop your car a bit.

the sn-95 cars are much closer to ours as far as weight and everything else goes. I know the rear suspension arms are shorter still, you want to keep or upgrade your rear arms.

overall, most anything you can do to a mustang mechanically can be done to our cars. the only real issues are length of shocks and drive shaft length, due to our longer wheel base.

Aren't the front control arms the same length ? The width (outside to outside) of the front wheels are probably the same as the T-Birds ?
I had thought at one time of swapping the whole 94-95 GT k-member/front suspension into a 87 TC.
Hooking up the steering rack might be a pain.

I have SN-95 control arms on the front of my Bird. Thunderbird ball joints need to be used.

I would try to get the whole car, and swap everything. Rear end, front spindles, control arms, struts, springs, K-member, engine, tranny, wiring harness, the whole kit and caboodle. Hell, if I was feeling particularly adventurous the interior would be swapped too, including the dash. Like Haystack said, the SN95 Mustang is probably the best donor vehicle out there for a fox Bird or Cat.

between my my 2 fox cars I'm sure I could use almost all the parts.
