Title: oil switch wire
Post by: White85GS on September 22, 2013, 12:00:36 AM
a PO added a Mech gauge but it was leaking oil from both ends so I decided to go back to a switch. The wire I found was brown, is the wire that plugs into the oil pressure switch brown on a 5.0? The light doesn't work. I know, the bulb could just be burnt out, but I really want to find out if that is the correct wire.

hmmm..

low oil level sender in the pan?

check out my 87evtm link  below... i suspect the wire color is the same for 85 as it is for 87.

be advised there is a *******METAL WIRE RETAINER built **INTO the plastic connector on the oil pan.
you gotta kinda fish it out from around the edges and once you see what im talking about , use a small jewlers to pry up (straight up) and then the wire can be pulled off the physical sensor itself

upon further inspection, the wire is red/white, just so dirty/old that it looks brown, lol.

the switch itself will likely require that special socket for removal if you want to replace it.
