Title: 2006 Lincoln LS (V8)
Post by: bike70ride on September 11, 2013, 02:07:13 PM
Guess this would go here.  I'm looking for a low mileage (under 50K preferred), one owner (preferred) 2006 Lincoln LS (might consider a 2005 with the right options and preferably a LSE).  I'd like to have the Nav radio / THX audio system, but that is not a deal breaker.  Wood accents a must.  I'll consider any location in the US for the right vehicle, but it would be much easier to consider a car within about a 300 mile radius of Kansas City.

Just thought I'd post on here...I know its not a Fox car, but checking around all places I can think of.

Thanks!

This will be a replacement for my trusty daily driver Cougar in my sig, so if anyone would be interested I that car let me know, too.  Body is getting rough, but mechanically sound (I drive it daily to and from work and in 2011 took it on a 2500 mile Lake Superior Circle Tour...no issues whatsoever).  I have no qualms driving that car anywhere.  Interior is very clean and I have a fair collection of parts that can go with the car.  262,XXX miles.

Was always a big fan of the LS.

I just wish Lincoln would have continued to work the bugs out.

If you find one you like, do yourself a favor and open all the wiring harnesses in the front wheel wells and bumper so the water can drain out.  These cars are electrical nightmares, I would know.
Good luck and may God have mercy on your soul.

As a current owner of a 2004 LSE that I use as my daily driver, I will warn you that you should expect to wrench on the car on a regular basis.

My two previous daily drivers were a 1992 Taurus and a 1993 Sable and compared to the LS, those cars were completely trouble free needing only oil changes, tires, and wiper blades. The LS on the other hand has been very constant with its need for replacement parts and attention.

If you ask anyone that knows me, they will attest that I'm not hard on my cars at all, and if you spend any time on the LS forums, you will find that almost all of these failures are common with LS ownership as well as a few others like window regulators that I have been fortunate enough not to have to deal with (yet). The rest has been normal maintenance stuff like tires, brakes, sway bar end links, shocks, etc.

With that said, it is a great driving car with a very fun for a 4-door sedan. I would say that it has been one of my favorite daily drivers that I have ever owned and is almost as rewarding as a couple of Honda CRX's that I had (really miss those cars). I purchased my LSE in the Spring of '09 with 39k miles on it and it just turned 94k the other day. I was very particular in my quest for one. For me it had to be a V8 LSE in Vivid Red, with NAV/THX , HID's and Advanced Trac. After a few months of searching for one within 600 miles, I located one on Craigslist in St. Louis, MO.

So as long as you aren't intimidated by these repairs and aren't afraid to tackle these things yourself, I wish you good luck in your search for one.
I highly recommend Vivid Red :)

Water intrusion in the front cross-car harness is a real and terribly persistent problem on these cars.  If you saw the routing of the harness, you'd understand why a closed harness is such a ludicrous idea (at least in the instance of the Lincoln LS).

You'll have them all at once, just like the last 3 or 4 I dealt with.

Thanks for all the posts guys. Good to know of potential trouble areas. I've always done my own servicing on the Cougar...but I know newer vehicles are harder to work on. Though my Cougar has been a great daily driver its now in need of a lot of body work beyond my capabilities as well as fix a/c and main engine seals. Those major repairs to me are not worth doing to a 26 year old car that is very hard to find parts for now. After 13 years as my DD I just feel its time for something newer. I want to go Rwd and V8 in a sedan and be sporty...so to stay w/ the Ford family the LS is where I think its at. Not interested in the size of a crown Vic...or lack of handling.

Well, if you're sure...
Better make some friends on a LS board, or make some at the nearest Lincoln shop, cuz along the way you're going to need some well-informed help.
