Title: This is insane!!
Post by: TOM Renzo on September 04, 2013, 11:13:28 PM
To prove a point we had this brand new AUDI in the shop from a local dealer for some minor repairs. Someone bought this PIECE OF . And here is what this thing cost. People have lost there minds on what a good car is and the money spent. Why anyone on this planet would pay this much for a car that is a rolling garbage truck is beyond my imagination. I drove this car and to sum it up!!! My Camaro would waste this thing in handling and walk away from it like it was dragging an ANCHOR!!

My guess is that Camaro drivers aren't the target group that Audi is looking for.

have you priced out a new f-150? you can spend well over 50k without loading it.

I firmly believe just about anyone who buys a brand new car is insane. my friend bought a brand new dodge and within 3 years it was worth about 25% of what he owed on it.

I'd have to make about $2M a year to waste that kind of money.  And to think how many other neat cars you could get.  At least 2 new Mustang GT's!

I'm thinking there are also people without money that have tossed their brains out the window. You know, a 10+ yr car payment! :hick:

Some people have more money than sense...

its all relative......  income vs price.    If you make stupid money, you spend a proportionate amount towards a house/car or whatever........i photograph some weddings with budgets higher than the cost of that car...... not saying its sane or makes sense, just that people can and do spend.

As i have gotten older, i am less judgmental  of wealthy people overspending......for example:

One high end wedding, here is a list of how many people make a living off that expenditure...
Caterers, Florists, Band/Musicians, Photographers/Videographers, waiters, bus boys, bartenders, valet parkers, coat check, and the list goes on........
i make a living from the excess of others as many others do......trickle down economics.

Some people with no money, think they have money but certainly have no sense! :hick:

There's no guarantee the person who bought this car is wealthy.  I worked at a dealership for a few years and I quickly learned that an expensive car doesn't always equal high income.  Often the people who can least afford the expensive rides are the most willing to go into debt for the status.

There's also a very good possibility the car was leased.  Or maybe someone took a very long term note.  Dealers are now working loans with terms up to 97 months.  Sure a good portion of those loans will default, but the bankers will get their bonuses today and thier bailouts tomorrow.

"A record 84.5% of people acquiring cars in the second quarter financed the deals with loans or leases, Experian said on Tuesday. That is up from 79.7% in 2008.

The shifts came as average credit scores for new car loans from all lenders fell for the fourth consecutive year.

U.S. banks made 36% of their car loans to subprime borrowers in the second quarter, up from 34% a year earlier, according to data from Experian."

Well I guess I'm crazy as I bought a brand new car 2.5 years ago :hick:. It was just a Focus but still it was brand new.

People who are rich (not me but don't we all wish?) spend money on expensive things because they can. If you met someone from a third world country they would think that you're rich as you have a house, car, enough to eat, and internet access. "Expensive" is all a relative term.

I bought a new car because I really had no intention of getting a new one in three years. I figure I'd buy it, pay it off in 4-4 years, and then keep it for another 10 years till the body rusts out or a major engine/trans failure occurs. If you're going to buy a brand new car and keep it till the thing falls apart I have no problem with that. In fact it makes perfect sense to me. If you're going to keep a car for 10-15 years why get a used one if you can afford a new one? You'll know how it was maintained for its whole life. Plus the price difference between a 2-3 year old car with 20-30K miles and a brand new one isn't much different now. I'd like to say it's best to pay cash for a new car but there are some exceptions. For instance when I bought my Focus if I really, really wanted to I could have paid cash (I'd been saving money for years) but I decided to finance. Why? Well Ford Credit was offering me 0% for 60 months. I wouldn't be paying them interest. So I took the financing. It was "free money" as I pay Ford every month but I also earn interest on the money I kept in the bank.

$70K is not upper class, at least in my book. How is 70K a year "wealthy"?

If I were making 70k a year I would have it made... My best year so far, my wife and I made 25k between the two of us and we make it pretty well

Well said. I'm sure a lot of this goes on.

I agree and makes sense to me too.  Once your car is paid off, it starts paying for itself (assuming it's not a lemon and eats you up in maintenance) and the depreciation is a wash.  If you hang on to it long enough it could actually appreciate (Boss 429, Hemi Cuda, etc etc) but don't count on it.:hick:

I am not talking weather one is RICH or POOR. I find it amazing someone would shell out this much money for a piece of  like this. But then again most people that buy cars are not versed on the subject of a good car. for100K i would have a BENZ. Much better car than an AUDI. But then again people actually buy Toyota Priuses.Different strokes i guess. But then again if you can afford 100K i guess it does not matter??

Why is it so insane?
Someone would rather have a quality Audi RS5 than a py Camaro.
I'm sorry to shiznit on all of you but if you seriously compare a high class Audi to a Camaro in any other perspective than performance you're crazy.

We're all a special breed. We want to drive around in Thunderturds which nobody else even remotely care about. They must think WE are crazy if something.

EDIT: To clarify stuff, I myself would rather have a Camaro than an Audi RS5, even if it was free (and I couldn't pick the Audi in the reason to sell it and buy two camaros).

Audi, to me, is one of those things that is only considered "high-class" by those whom have never experienced true high class. Audi is very "mid-class" IMHO. My boss drives an Audi, and I used to own a VW Jetta. They were very similar, and I didn't really like either of them, heh. If I wanted high-class, there's several Bentleys, Rolls Royces, and even an Aston Martin on craigslist for less than half that price. Yeah, they're used, but when you come out of the club with a hot date which car would you rather have the valet bring to your rich ass? LOL.

Heh, I have a few friends that drive around base entry 3 series Bmw's and act like they're on top of the world, but they live on a month to month basis making car payments, and living with their parents still.
