sounds like lyrics to a song :hick:
Actually it's been 30 years ago today I purchased my 83 TBird. And no I'm not that old, :D I bought it when I wa in my 20's. How time flies!
Congrats. And yes, time flies fast. The Sport turns 26 on the 16th of this month. I've only had it for 5 or 6 years. If I hadn't found her at the boneyard, the Sport would be a recycled mess. Funny how we get attached like we do to these cars.
VERY nice...happy anniversary!
Wow and it still looks the same ..... Very nice man
It's looking great. Happy anniversary!
I really like that color combo. I think I've seen it somewhere before ;).
Looks amazing, like you park in the living room and wash it in the shower, lol!
mine was 30 on 6/4/13.......i have owned since 1987
Love the smoking windows...such an 70-80's thing....awesome.
Travis
Thanks for all the nice comments... I know it's old school with wire wheel covers and mud flaps (not everyone's cup of tea) but every time I considered a mod, I just decided to let it as it came from the factory. Guess I figured Ford got this one right. I love cars with tasteful mods and resto-mods so don't get me wrong, I'm not an old stick in the mud! :hick:
Oh yea, and it was my family car w/ 2 car seats and daily driver and now shows 131,000+ miles so with care and attention cars can be kept looking good. Not exactly parked in the living room but it has had a pretty good life in the garage. :hick: Still wears original paint, interior and even wire wheel covers! :giggle:
I kind of like this color combo too.
Glad to be part of this crazy group that enjoys the Tbirds and Cougars!
Wow...that's some love affair. Here's a picture taken in 1988 of our new XR7. Eventually sold it but purchased its clone last year.

Its a super neat original car....but I would rock a nice set of wheels(14" wheels have no business IMHO on fox tbird/cougars)....nothin too flashy but something classy...for such a nice survivor.

I have a spare set of Thunderbird TRX wheels with no curb rash, not looking for big $$ if you want for the Bird, would give a very correct and different look........tires are mucho expensive though.
Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I have the original set from my TC, don't even want to think about buying 2 sets of tires. :grinno:
Cool...love those 'vintage' pics of new cars!
Keep an eye on Ebay/CL as sets do come up for sale from time to time, and i scored a very nice set of 4 off CL for $200 + Shipping.
Another era appropriate upgrade would be a set of the 8 hole 14" wheels that came on 83-84 Turbo Coupes and later Sport/LX cars.
I went with 87-88 TC Snowflake wheels on mine as they are era appropriate and a unique Thunderbird wheel option. My Thunderbird originally had the 14" wire wheels your car has now. Two months after I bought it I swapped on a set of 14" 8 hole wheels. I just couldn't stand the wire hubcaps ;). I had to swap out the 14" wheels with the engine upgrade as the tires were a bit too small for the power output of the engine.
Yea, lots of options but since it's been this way since the day I bought it, why change now?

Not to say at some point I won't consider it but right now it's a low priority. Besides I want to be the one person on here who likes the look of whitewalls and hubcaps! :giggle:
Besides I want to be the one person on here who likes the look of whitewalls and hubcaps!
Make this two of us here who likes this option friend. :headbang:
Look out.... there are 2 of us now! :beatyoass:
:rollin:
Congrats! 30 years is a long time to have a car. I've had my 88 Base for 23 years now. And still love it. Of course mine has had quite a few changes done.
Thanks...
23 years is a long time to have a car too! Time flies huh?
I guess I like to hang on to cars, I still have my first car, a 1967 Fairlane. :hick:
That's awesome! My Dad has a 67 Fairlane too. It's a 500 with a 289, it's frost tourquise.
I guess owning mine for 11 years isn't that long. It was the first car I ever bought. I was 17 at the time.
I can't believe I've owned my red cougar for 9 years, and known it for 15 (dad bought it in 1998). So many good times, and many more to come...
Cool! Mine is a 500 with a 289 too, but Wimbledon white. Awaiting a restoration/restomod...
If you still have the first car you ever bought after 11 years, I'd say that's something special and already long term ownership! :burnout:
I detect a trend in hanging on to and enjoying the cars we love. :hick:
I've had my Bird nearly 18 yrs now.
longest relationship ever  lol
It's a great car in and of itself, but just as influential are all of the stories from people at car shows, or people in general who miss their old vehicle. The regret you see and hear is just poignant. The message is clear: As soon as you even think about selling it, slap yourself in the face about 50 times. And then be sure not to forget to not sell it. I also want to be able to stand there and say I've owned it for 30+ years just like you are, proud that I kept it clean and dry all those years and preserved it from the perils every other car out there has to deal with.
:rollin:
Congrats on keeping her happy all these years!
I'm surprised how many people seem to have forgot about these cars until they see one. Then they follow up with an interesting story and usually a positive experience. Just had it to a car show a few weekends ago and a guy came up to me and said he owned a 84 Cougar and it was a great car and rode so well. Lots of people can't believe it's old enough to have antique plates on it either! ;)
I've gotten a bunch of "WTF?" looks since I've been driving the Thunderbird around this year with antique plates. I think people don't realize how old it is. I get many more looks and thumbs up than I used to as well, thanks to the antique plates. These cars are old but they don't look old like a GM G-body coupe does.
Exactly! Great to know folks don't think our cars look old! :hick:
Just curious..... It's been 30 years ago today.... lyrics... anyone have a clue what I was referring too?
