Title: T-5 swap parts list
Post by: 86caprirs on August 05, 2013, 09:22:49 AM
OK guys. I have a list of parts and I need to know if anything is missing.

1) WC T-5 with clutch fork

2) T-5 pedal assembly from a Mustang

3) Hurst short throw shifter

4) FMPP King Cobra clutch kit

5) FMPP Adjustable clutch cable kit

6) FMPP pilot bearing

7) FMPP 28oz 10 1/2" 157t flywheel (Engine is a 95 5.8L roller. I am running the stock truck balancer. I think that is a 28oz ballance.)

8) FMPP dowel kit for clutch pressure plate

9) Manual trans spacer plate (Between engine and T-5)

10) Polly transmission mount.

11) GM syncromesh fluid

Can you think of anything else I will need.

Oh, will I need longer flywheel bolts or will the auto trans flex plate bolts work? Ford says they are the same part number.

Idk if I would run syncro mesh in a t5. They use dex/merc ATF. Gear oil can make them grind gears. Change the input and output seals on the tranny if it is used. They are easy to change and guaranteed to leak if you don't. Other than that I would say, just make sure you get the flywheel, and pressure plate bolts.

The 5 speed wiring is also required when ya swap a Stang. I'm not sure if birds are the same

I didn't need any harnesses to do mine. I just tied the wires together for the neutral safety switch. If you have a digital speedometer you will have to use the tbird speed sensor with the gear from the mustang speed sensor.

if you need a reverse light, you will at least need that connector.

I got the 5 speed connector. I am just wondering about the interlock switch. Is there not a harness taped up around the steering column area that can be used? Does it not need to see that signal? I was thinking of using that as a theft device and wire in a switch that will open the circuit. No mater if you step on the clutch, it will not start the car unless you pop the hood and jump the solenoid..... or find the switch and flip it.

I have a buttstuffog gauges in my car. This car is basically a turbo coupe with a 5.0L in it, minus the nose, hood, brakes and rear diff. But I swapped that all in.

I have a tonne of mercon 5 at work , or is there a synthetic oil I can use, maybe royal purple or something close?

Thanks for the info guys

Just for kicks and GIGGLES the GM fluid is superior and worth every penny. But if you feel inclined about mixing name plates FORD TYPE F COMES TO MIND!!!!

just use atf. that's what the factory calls for. mercon should also be compatable.

your nss is not hooked up correctly. if I recall correctly it has a green connector. you need to run this line to the clutch switch to get it to function, or bypass it for now by jumping it. I think I cut the connector off and taped the wires up after soldering them.

Modern tranny fluids are to SLIPPERY for the T5. Type F is the ticket!!!

What do you mean its not hooked up correctly? I want it to function properly so I don't start it in gear accidentally or who ever borrows my car.

then you need to wire it up to the clutch. there are two connectors on the clutch itself. one is right above the clutch, the other is on the quadrant above the gas pedal.

on mine, the one above the clutch was broken, so I tried to set it up on the one above the quadrant and it worked the reverse of what I needed.

WOW for more years than i can remember stick cars would start with the clutch released. Now we are so used to modern  a NSS is necessary for the NOVICE. WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!! Wire it to the clutch pedal NSS. 2 wires not a brain teaser!!!!!!!!!!!

Pennzoil has a synchromesh that is waaay cheaper than the GM logo bottle from the dealer and most of the guys (myself included) run this in the Tremec TKO's.  I run Mobil 1 synthetic transmission oil my T-5's and have for over 15 years with great results.

Well I figured the 5.0L Mustang had an auto trans in it, but you could swap a manual in and the plug ins were there. Should it not be the same for our cars? I will just need to get a wire diagram and see what I have to do to run it properly.

Aerocoupe, Mobil 1 synthetic ATF? I like that idea. I just heard a lot of people say to use the syncromech with the T-5.

there is a transmission harness that plugs into both the transmission. and the pedals. auto has its own separate harness. on our cars, this includes the speed sensor wiring.

Haystack: So I need to find a turbo coupe and get the harness from there? Or do I just find any Fox Mustang with a 5 speed 4 cyl or v8?

86 what are you trying to do with the harness??? I am guessing you want to mate it to the NSS from the auto tranny and also hook up the reverse lights?? Please clear this up as the T5 has the reverse light switch right in the TRANNY. The stock auto wiring can be spliced in to the T5 with the proper plug that fits the t5. 4 wires are involved to have both. 2 wires to have reverse lights and 2 wires spliced together to eliminate the manual tranny NSS. If you need the colors i will post them. The speed sensor is another issue as it has to match the car you are dealing with.

The 86 MERK XR7 shows the R-LB and W-BK as the NSS leads. If this is the car you are working on splice them together to eliminate NSS. If you want NSS run them to the clutch switch on the PEDAL!!

Reverse lights are the BK/PK and P/O wires!!

What I am doing is just making sure everything plugs in and works. I did snag a small harness from the turbo coupe under the car that plugs into the 4 pr0ng cylinder from the trans. It has two wires looped together. I'm guessing for the reverse lights? The vss wires are already there.  Then I want to plug the neutral safety switch in and complete the system. The NSS on the pedals I have look like it needs two connectors to plug into it. I can take a pic if I need too.
