Seemed kind of slow here, so, I thought I'd share some boring and useless information on the old Sport.....
I have a list of things happening in a short time. I'm swapping the TFS-1 cam for an H.O cam in a couple of weeks, and topping that off with a set of 1.7 roller rockers.
New rear wheels are coming as well. Going to try something different for a while.
After the cam swap, I'm going to install the new header panel and new hood, then the trunk lid.
Swapping the struts and strut mounts as soon as the mounts get here. Should be asap.
I'm removing the stock replacement clutch I installed a few weeks ago. That thing sucks bad. I have a new Ford racing clutch for it.
In July, if all works well, the Sport will be painted, and I can get back to actually enjoying the car again. I love the Sport, but in the last year or so, I really haven't got a lot of joy out of it like I used to. I think after all the work, I'll get back to just having fun with it again.
I'll upgrade to larger brakes later. i think the list i have now will keep me busy for a bit.
Vinnietbird,
Sounds like quite a make over. Have you decided on a color for your paint?
Sounds good, Vin. I have a long list of things I'd like to do on the '83 as well. Just can't seem to get to it just yet, so I just deal with it and drive it when the weather is good.
Keep us updated.
Vinnie, putting the TFS cam in your other engine? How's that comin' along?
Looking forward to pics of the updates. PS, your parts will go out Monday...I clean forgot about them till just a bit ago when I tripped over the box walking around my tool box. I've been parting the convertible Mustang to get it out of my shop so I can get the Sport in to fix a couple of issues. Then will come some assembly for my shiny black 4 eyed coupe.
Chuck, it has been crazy trying to get it all done. I had the MOST fun with the car when I had the H.O cam in it. So, going back to basics. I figure with the ported GT40-P heads, and the 1.7 roller rockers, it should be just fine. I got my new sanding blocks that Jerry told me to get, and now I need to get a few mechanical things done so I can start sanding.
The car is probably going to be just a wee bit darker, but keeping the green. I may chicken out and keep the same shade, but we'll see what happens when I actually get the paint chip books in front of me.
The TFS-1 cam is going to a new owner. I offered it in trade for a set of 1.7 roller rockers, and found a taker, so, rockers in route.
Beau, no hurry at all. I'm still looking for lenses. LOL. I'll find some somewhere.
No worries, they're ready to go when you want 'em. :)
Thanks Mang.
I'm thinking about going ahead and swapping the cam this weekend. Do it and get it over with. I only need two things....gaskets, and motivation. LOL.
If I'd known that you were selling your TFS-1....
I really didn't want to sell it. Trading it for the rockers I wanted worked out better than selling.
I have sooo much projects going on around the house,, ill post updates on that but yes i get what you mean about time.
I drive my 20th and enjoy the hell out of going on road trips. ive totally not missed my 08 explorer,, its gladly gone now. Im happy racking up all the highway miles i can bangin away at the little bugs now and again and keeping here going. ~still fighting that intermittan miss at low rpm..
Time is killing me. ...or lack of it. Every time I get time, it's raining . Rain and hail last night. Hopefully we'll be moving in about a year and a half, then I can have a garage again that I can get a couple of cars in. Until then, it is what it is.
As of today...... 4 new wheels are in route.
Every friggin' penny of my car funds is gone. Dust, History.
Can't wait to see what ya got ;)
Awesome, cant wait to see all the updates!!
4 of these.....

Do you have your current wheels sold yet?
Not that it's my business, I'm broke now, but I think those would look good on my 4 eye car..
Not sold yet. There's a local Stang guy who wants them. We'll see what happens. I may stack them in the garage until I'm sure I like the new ones. I have the springs here, and a whole trunk of parts......Hopefully swapping the TFS-1 cam for the H.O cam and 1.7 roller rockers. I traded the TFS-1 cam for the rockers last week. The rockers will come soon, then after I install them and remove the cam, I'll ship the TFS-1 to it's new home.
The new wheels may sit in the garage until after the new paint is on. I'm not in a hurry to install them yet. Just getting them was the ordeal. Now, that's one step closer to getting this car back in top shape again.
I installed the rear SN-95 vert springs and the new lines for the air shocks, and the minimum required 25 psi in the shocks, the car sits level. It will take some time to get used to not having the rake any more. LOL.
I also installed the H.O cam last Thursday as well, and still using the Scorpion 1.6 roller rockers. The 1.7 Cobra rockers should be here late this week or early next week.
.........and now to find out my electric fan motor is ping out. !!! Ordering a new one today.
I will install the struts later this week, and the new wheels are here. The plan was to go with 17x9 all around, but up front, they are too wide, so, I'm sending 2 of them back and getting 17x8 for the front. The new hood will go on soon, then if all the stars align, paint in July.
After the cam swap I installed the OEM Turbo Coupe header panel. Gold nose on a green car. Here we go again.
Get ur done!! I feel for you, I changed 1 car into another in few days.
Once I get this thing back together, and I'm as happy with it as I was when it was painted 3 years ago, I'm going to do a few final bits to it, then get a py car to daily drive and park the Sport.
Another update.....the new hood is installed. Pics when I can find the bloody camera. Maybe Graham or Jerry can post the pic I sent to their phone.
here ya go Vinnie....

Look at the pictures now, Read the novel later.
Jerry, great workmanship.
hood looks really good Vinny, did you buy or make that hood?
Two thumbs up guys. Jerry, again, awesome stuff.
My friend Jerry did the work. That's the simple version. The story of this hood, as he and I have spoken, could make up whole book.
we need some way better pics
I'll get better pics tomorrow.....with a real camera.
Cool, I figured it out now.. lol I haven't been around that much this past year.
it was also a 6 month adventure from start to finish... :hick:
Adventure? Hmmmmm.......I guess that word will loosely do for now.
One step at a time. I just got home from having my rear tires mounted on the new wheels. The new rear wheels are on now. The front wheels are in route as I type this. They will go on when they get here along with new front tires as well. The brand new Taurus fan assembly will be here soon and it will go on asap.
Sounds like you're making some good progress. I'm jealous as I've been dumping money into my new car - hundreds of dollars in foam and mlv for sound deadening, exterior light housings for LED and projection headlight fab, etc. My poor bird has been sitting untouched for over a month now! Oh well, it will soon be getting parts from a new cnc, and it will fly on top of a new hydraulic lift. Also going back and re-doing the exhaust to get rid of all drone.
Let me know what difference you feel with the cam change. I'm guessing there won't be much in terms of felt power difference, but the sound and smoothness will change.
The H.O cam feels fine in the car. Pulls hard, and has a smooth idle. I have the ported GT40-P heads to help it. I also have a set of 1.7 roller rockers coming tomorrow which I will install Saturday. Hopefully my new electric fan will be here as well. My new front wheels should be here Monday. So much to do !!!
Today's agenda......installing the new front wheels, new electric fan, and the 1.7 roller rockers. After that............TV time.
Wheels are on...........letting the engine cool, then fan and rockers. Pics later.
I'm surprised you decided to change the wheels again. But I have always like the cobra R's. You'll have her looking good again real soon. No doubt about it. I finally took mine out for a ride. It was nice last Friday and I was only working a half day so I took it to work to show it off. I definitely need to get the front end aligned since it's back to original ride height. It also needs repainted. The current paint is around 10 years old now and has some cracking showing up.
Are you really? We all know vinnie changes parts like he does clothing.
Depending on the occasion
True. LOL. It's been one of those days. I'm having crazy electric fan issues. I'll post that down in electrical..... More news shortly.
Well, I got the fan figured out, and set the TPS...it was at .770. I have a Professional Products throttle body with the adjustable TPS plate on it.....I hate that. Anyway, so far so good. Test drive around the block was successful. I'll go a little further later.
that is really nice work,,,
i have to do my son's TC front end conversion on his sport & TC hood.
I have no scoops tough ,, he wants the scopps to be funtional with flaps that open and close.
ive got a couple ideas that mitigate water intrusion.
I am going back from my MAC CAI to a stock air intake setup for easy of filter change. I may try to work out a Ram Air setup for the hood and fab a custom air box lid since I have an extra to mess with.
i imagne two flaps that are painted a color that catches your eye on the ram air.
I then imagine these flaps being simple coil spring loaded to keep them closed.. with a set screw to make tension adjustable.
one of the flaps would wip agains a micro switch that turned on an LED,, when you hit the gas, a mean looking light illuminates both openings... should look cool at night.
to keep things simple, on a stock 5.0, a simple parallel duct could be plumbed up to the ram air using the engine suction to open the ram air flaps... i wouldnt delete the oem air filter set up unless it proved to be reliable then i would redo things to make this a primary air supply.
Now a big update....Just installed my NOS Ford coil and yanked the basically new MSD (nothing wrong with the MSD as far as I can tell), removed the vacuum tube from the throttle body and installed a screw in plug after I drilled and tapped it. Ordered new outer door handles to be ready after paint. Got my Cobra roller rockers installed, and my second set in the mail yesterday. I was going to sell them, but decided to keep them for a while. Doesn't cost me to do that. Found that my air shocks are leaking, so, depending on my work schedule tomorrow, I may pull the lines and re-install them and see if that's the issue. No big deal. Minor stuff to do that. Now I want a Flaming River steering shaft, but holy , they want big bucks for those.......Oh Chuuuuuuuck.....can you fab one for me for less? LOL. No really, can you?
Flaming River is some serious $. I looked into that stuff for my buddy awhile back...he allowed he'd just stay with power steering, and spend his piggybank on the Procharger stuff instead.
I'd rather have p/s for the street anyway. An all out drag car might be a little different, where I'd want every last bit of power at the back tires.
I gotta laugh when I see these guys with manual steering for the weight reduction and power gain...then they have a 3500 watt stereo system in there too. SMH.
I don't want manual steering, just the steering shaft from them for power steering cars. Like this......

Vinnie, can you weld? You can get the joints from speedway motors for around $100 for the pair and then the shaft for around $20. You don't save a lot opposed to buying the FR shaft, but $80 is $80 and you can say "I built that"
