my cat miles the gallon
or my other cat gallons per hour
What in the world do you do with that generator?
just one of my projects....
utility upgrade form 200A single phase to 208 3ph 600a service with CT cabinet
TVSS x 2
4000A dc power plant
AT 39P 2180AH battery strings x 2
Full blown Quest Controls alarm system
2) 5ton wall mount hvac's and 1 packaged liebert 10Ton unit
misc infrustructure fiber ducting and cable racking
full blown facility ground ring
misc ground work and fencing
about a 380k project for comcast in Martinsville VA
I didn't understand any of that til you said "Comcast"
Im with him, what the hell did you just say?
Im guessing your 87 Cat is more thirsty.....
the gen uses 37gal/hr
when i got back to the office, i didnt even realize i had two cats in one picture.
Catapillar
Cougar
I don't know, and this is purely a guess, but I'd say that the big yeller Cat drinks diesel fuel...whereas the little Kitty sips good ole 87 octane lol.
37 gallons/hour?
Holy , that is alot of fuel. I figured the fixed generators would run pretty efficient. Maybe it needs a turbo?
it has a turbo,, 250kw cat gen, most all of these have a turbo.
at 100% load, thats it fuel demand.
the tank is a 48hr rated design.
as a simulation / comparrison, during a power outtage we had here at the house,
At idle and running my coug for 8 solid hours straigth feeding in inverter, at 800rpm ,
i was able to run down to 1/3 of a tank remaining.
this1/3rd of a tank was my reserve to go out far from home to find and fill the gas tank back up.
so, thats 16hrs of run time on 14.6gal of fuel or .92gal of fuel consumption per hour
this might be a good ratio for you all if you want to use an inverter during outtages and "know" in advance how much back up fuel you have in the form of time.
my 20th has no mods though.
roughly speaking i assume the 5.0 consumes approx 1gal/hr at idle.
How much could the inverter you used handle? How did it wire in?
I think that could be a cool option.
1200w inverter so lets just say at best 1000kw.
my older deep freeze started up just fine , the 2year old fridge on the other hand must have some issues with start up because it really bogged the inverter down until the fridge came up to speed.
My inverter is made by Pylon
i have a couple 700w inverters as well i got from the box stores,, just back ups.
