I don't know where y'all want this question asked, but I need to know where my Cougar was made. As in what plant. The VIN is: 1MEBM6044JH688010. I have done all sorts of internet searches to no avail. I guess I just don't know the right term to use.
Can someone help me figure out where to go to find out this info?
Thank you for any and all help you can give me. @};--
All 85-88 Thunderbirds and Cougars were built in Lorain, Ohio. :)
The Ford assembly plant was shuttered in 2005 and sold by Ford in 2011. Here's a video of it:

Thank you so very much for your quick response, BornInAFord. I guess that's one of the plethora of reasons why parts are so hard to get a hold of. Sad, sad video.
well,,
welcome aboard and make sure to shop in our parts for sale section, get to know people and buy/trade stuff for parts here.
keep your 88 alive and hit your local salvage yards.
start stock pilling or collect up the things you want to swap out
The above post is true. Parts that are specific to these Birds and Cougars are not made anymore. Any time you see a part that you may need in the future, grab it. If you can't use it, grab it anyway. Somebody will need it. And, welcome to the forum.
Thank you, both(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/53.gif)(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/53.gif), for welcoming me.
Shopping in the parts for sale section to help keep my kitty alive is one of the reasons why I'm here.
Unfortunately, I've had zero luck in any of my local yards and little to no luck anywhere else.(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/62.gif) That is another reason why I'm here. You all know more than I do.(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/16.gif) In addition to picking yards, I'll be picking your brains, as well! LOL!(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/21.gif)
Because I'm on a rather limited budget I have to spend my money very deliberately. At this point, I can only wish that I could stockpile parts. Financially speaking, I'll be doing very well just to be able to get the parts that Kitty absolutely has to have. ...Like the passenger side parking light lens that blew off day before yesterday and was gone ...FOREVER... before I knew what had happened, for instance.
I do know that the longer I wait the less likely I'll be able to find certain, and it looks like, most parts. I've already ran into that, which is another reason why I'm here.
start a thread in the wanted section with your wish list...
you may not have a budget but you might have trading power,,,, you never know..
heck, someone may need a couple dozen cookies!! we go purdy hungry around here hunting parts.
if your situation allows for it, perhaps you need a doner car to park on your property that mirrors or matches your car as best as possible.
relatively speaking whole cars like ours are not all that hard to find.

Welcome to the Board :D There's a lot of good folks here. Pics of your car would be oh so appreciated  :rollin:
Thanks for the feedback, jcassity.(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/53.gif) I'm gonna get that "wish list" out here as soon as I have the money to actually buy what is found/offered as it is found/offered.
You see, I'm waiting for the Social Security Administration to turn loose of my Widow's Benefits. Once that happens, I'll be able to grab whatever shows up as soon as it shows up. Unfortunately, the judge presiding over my case still has a couple of months to drag his feet, maybe longer, before being compelled to make a decision. (I'm having to sue because I'm under 60, but am disabled. It's long to explain and longer to process. I've already been at this for over a year.) Once he makes the decision that I can have my late hubbie's money, it can take up to another 9 months to actually get my back pay. Once I get that lump sum (beyond my monthly benefits), I'll have the money to work on the Kitty and my 89 Bronco 4x4 (full size) and to get some property of my own somewhere that I'll be able to park whatever donor vehicles I need on. But in the mean time, I'm keeping my ear to the ground and my eyes pealed so that when that money does come in I'll be able to jump - FAST! ....Or as fast as I can find what I need, anyway.
Until I can spend my back pay from my Widow's Benefits I can only nickel and dime my way by only getting what I absolutely have to have to keep Kitty on the road because right now I'm only getting SSI, which is NOT very much. Unfortunately, the Bronco is undrivable (needs a front transmission seal - won't keep tranny fluid IN) and I don't have anything else to drive but Kitty.
So, you see, unfortunately, my situation is not very similar to some of the other members here who have plenty of re$ource$.
Thank you(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/53.gif) for the 'welcome', 1BadBird. Yep, that starving cat/bird fanciers' comment struck me as rather comical, too! LOL!(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/24.gif)
As for pics, my digital camera died, so I can't post pics until I can borrow another digital camera. I'll try to get some pics to post as soon as I can.
Actually, my avatar IS Kitty's sail panel. I took that pic and made that avatar back in 2007 when I first joined this forum. But, I didn't log in for a couple of years and lost my account here until October of 2011 when I explained my situation to the moderators and got my account here back.
At any rate, I must warn you that Kitty is only a diamond in the rough. She needs a bit of body work. Although she is now my daily driver, she does need some mechanical and other attention that I'm only slowly able to afford. Once she is 100% mechanically sound, I have a friend who is a body man who is going to do the body and paint for me at cost of materials. I hope to have her completely done within the next 2 - 4 years....or, at least, that is my "fantasy" (if you will) for right now.
oh, by the way,
you have wiring diagrams now as well for your car,,
several of us have EVTM links in our signatures
Thank you(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/53.gif), jcassity for that info. I have already tried several times to download the 88 EVTM by "thefoeyouknow" but each time I did I got this:
Has anyone any ideas of what is up with that?(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/7.gif)
i let Foe know on private message
PM trinom, the file is hosted on his ftp server.
In the mean time, try this:
Torrent Magnet link (http://"magnet:?xt=urn:btih:353301BFA38FC9110632728CD28C43F6CA0A69B6&dn=EVTM.pdf&tr=udp%3a%2f%2ftracker.openbittorrent.com%3a80%2fannounce&tr=udp%3a%2f%2ftracker.publicbt.com%3a80%2fannounce&tr=udp%3a%2f%2ftracker.ccc.de%3a80%2fannounce")
Make sure DHT is enabled in your Bittorrent client (utorrent, bitcomet, etc.)
Thank you(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/53.gif), jcassity, for letting foe know. I do appreciate that, too.
Thank you(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/53.gif), too, TheFoeYouKnow.
But, I don't have any torrent software installed on my 'puter. This is really the first time I've had any real use for it. I don't normally download stuff from torrents....wouldn't even know how.(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/106.gif)Thank you(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/53.gif) for the thought and link, though.(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/5.gif)
the wiring diagrams in the 87EVTM are 95% a perfect match to your 88 car in the meantime.
Kewl! TYVM(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/53.gif), there jcassity.(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/4.gif) When I get ready to suss out the problem I have with the dash gauges lieing to me I'll likely need these tools.(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/3.gif)
Hi guys. I've had some troubles with internet connection, but it should be working again. BTW, I have '88 EVTM on my picasa as well. Check out my sig.
Thank you so very much, Trinom.(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/53.gif)
And thanks for posting all that stuff "in" your sig. (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/77.gif)
I'm sure that will come in really handy for a lot of folks!(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/113.gif)
...myself included. ... (http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/61.gif) <hee-hee(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/19.gif)
I also have a physical copy of the '88 EVTM (same thing as what you downloaded) if there's something in particular, PM me, I'll take a pic or several and send to you :)
Off topic, but if you are the sort to get out and parts search, both of the pick n pulls (truman, 12th street-formerly u-pick-it) have online inventories...
Says for the location on Winner road they have an '88 Cougar....
Thanks for your offer, ThunderbirdSport302. I do appreciate that a lot!
And thanks for the info on the pick-n-pulls. I didn't know they had online inventories. I'll have to check them out!
No worries. :)
Call me Beau. Or, as some here do, you can call me asshole. LMAO
Just don't call me late for dinner!
Ok, Beau.(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/4.gif)
I went and checked that out. Definitely had NO headlights. Somebody beat me there! DRATT!(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/62.gif)(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/102.gif)
That yard cat has already been found by another vulture or vultures(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/59.gif)...if you get my drift.(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/23.gif)
Surprisingly(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/13.gif), I was able to get the parking lights off of it(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/41.gif), but one of those has a hairline crack in it about an inch long.(http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/29.gif) However, I figure it's better than the plexiglass that I frosted and glued with silicone to the front of the one that lost it's lens last week.
